Both The Top And Side Entries Are Fixed With Hexagonal Tweeters !!!

Something that will improve the number of swiftlet to your entrance hole by at least three times the normal arrangements.

My recommendation is the installation of hexagonal tweeters just above your main entrance holes.

At my recently revamped BH at Bukit Selambau Kedah I proved to the BH owner how fantastic the tweeters helps to draw more birds to the top of his entrance holes.

The front side entrance was enlarged and the hexagonal was positioned just above the entrance hole in the middle part about 1.5 feet above the roof floors.

Similarly at the back part of the same BH with another entrance with top entry system was also equipped with a hexagonal tweeter too.

For the back entrance hole I insisted that the tweeter must be slightly above the peak of the roof highest position.  My main reason being to get the sound to 360 direction with no blockages from the roof.

There were five 2"x 3" tweeters on each hexagonal tweeter.

The sound generated will usually travelled a couple of meters to attract any potential tenants into the BH.

Most failed BHs are not equip with any of these kind of gadget.

To those who are new or having problem to attract more birds to their new BH try this technique.

It won't cost you more than 250 ringgit to get one unit install.

The result will be much better as compared to without it.

Give Your Contractor/Consultant Enough Time !!!

What will you do when after 1-2 years your BH is still with very little nests while your close by neighbour's BH is doing very very well?

A good time to think of moving forward.

This was the exact thing that happened to a BH owner in Kedah.

"I do not wish to offend him and endure more than 20 months before deciding to engage a third party to revamp my BH."  His so few words about his BH problem.

His contractor build his BH and about 100 meters away the contractor erected his own.

The two BHs were officially launched on the same day.

Now after 20 months the contractor's  BH is heavily populated while his was only about 40-50 nests.

There must be something not right?

The question here is this.  If you owned a BH beside your friend's and you looks after both his and yours, would you populate his BH more than yours?

It will be ridiculous and stupid to populate your friend's BH but it is very easy to sabotage his BH.

The simplest method is to kill his BH sounds while yours will operate with the best sound that you have in your collection.

The moment his BH is without any sounds you know it has become a dead BH while yours is full of birds flying all over your BH rooftop and perhaps at the entrance hole.

This simple act can be done intentionally or unintentionally.

Intentionally is by switching of the sounds in his BH and blast your BH sound to the optimum.

Unintentionally is by refusing to restart his BH sounds after say a lightning while yours is put back to normal.

"Oh shit I forgot to bring the key to my friend's BH" excuse.

This can happened and to those who engage a neighbours who owned a BH beside you be careful.

If you need my opinion please call 017 7551318 for advise.

Wet Floor Within Less Than 30 Minutes !!!

All you need is 30 minutes to get a wet floor system installed.

Main function of a wet floor system is to get your BH wet, I mean the air inside your BH high with water moisture.

My idea is to create a kind of floor that is similar inside a cave with the floor wet with water.

To retain the water I made a kind of pool using those trampoline plastic cover lining about 12 feet by 10 feet in dimension with 3 inches by 2 inches wood at the four sides.

Inside the made pool I will fill it with fine sand and flooded with water.

To get the water smells similar to a cave is to sprinkle a layer of bird shit onto the water surface.

Within three to four days the bird shit will be fermented and the aroma generated will make your BH smells like a true functioning with lots of birds inside your BH.

To minimize the chances of flooding I will focus only the ground floor.

Also to reduce the chances of mosquito breeding I will sprinkle about two sachets of mosquito repellent "Abate" powder manufactured by BASF.

In this newly revamped BH at Bukit Selambau, Kedah I have four pools two inside each VIP rooms.

The owner was so fascinated with the idea and commented that her BH now is like a cave.

I have no doubt that this interesting idea will work and all you need is to try yourself.

Get the followings and lay the wet pool yourself.

1)  4 pieces of wood 2"x 3"x 12'
2) A plastic trampoline plastic about 10 feet X 12 feet.
3) A scoop (big scoop) of fine sand.
4) Water to flood the pool with sand laid inside.
5) About 5 kilogram of fresh bird shit (swiftlet).

You will be surprise how this simple idea will transform your BH from a normal unit to something like a cave environment.

Have a try and if you are not sure call 017 7551318

The Three Stories Stand Alone BH Now Is Back Into Operation !!!

I am very pleased with the final installation of four wet floor pools installed on the ground floor of the 3 stories BH located in a remote place called Bukit Selambau, Kedah.

Took about ten days to completely overhauled the BH turning it into a two BHs in one BH.

The top most floor now operates on its own with no communication with the two floors below it.

The owner and his wife was very pleased with the works that were carried out and proudly present it to his friends before giving the blessing to put it into operation.

What was done inside this BH were as follows:

1) The BH not is made of two with the top most floor operate on its own while the two floors were the second unit.

2) The two BHs have their own dedicated entrance hole(s).  The top most uses the top entry while the lower uses two side entries holes using a monkey house.

3) Each floor has two VIP rooms with properly wooden frame with cement boards and each with a door about 3 feet wide.

4) The nesting planks inside these VIP rooms were realigned and inserted with adequate number of additional crossing woods to create more 90* corners with cluster woods.

5) The number of internal sound tweeters on each floor now is about 250 pieces as compared to only about 50 pieces prior to upgrading.

6) The main entrance hole was enlarged to my preferred sized.

7) All the entrance holes (3 units) were installed with new external sound tweeters plus one for internal sound.

8) The roof of the monkey house was installed with a number of power tweeters.

9) Two of the three entrance holes were installed with hexagonal tweeters.

10) The top and middle floors were installed with the latest mist makers with auto starter sensors.

11) The lowest floor was with four wet floor pools filled with fine sand, wet with tap water and later sprinkled with bird shit.

12) The nesting planks were properly cleaned from dirt and debris before being applied with a layer of swiftpheromone solution.

13) A sizeable number of fake nests were made available inside all the VIP rooms.

14) All the fake nests were sprayed with special aroma to attract young birds to reside.

15) Each floor now operate its internal sound system on its own with a dedicated amplifier.

16) The external sounds for the top and bottom BHs are not the same.

17) The two BHs in one has it own "Last Tango" sound system installed to operate during late evening.

I feel very lucky to be given the trust by the owner to revamp this unit and after 10 back breaking days it is now back into operation.

The moment the sounds were put into operation you can see as if the BH now is alive.

I literally put the BH life back after staying dead for more than 22 months.

I thank the owner a number of times but his always says that I should be the one to say thank you for all the wonderful work you have done.

"Pak Harry you did the revamp works with passion and there no other fellows will be like you who give his entire effort to putting a dead BH back to its original purposes." a comment from the BH owner's wife.

My hope now is to see as many new bird shit spots on the floor especially below those internal sound tweeters.

Will report its progress as and when I visit for follow up maintenance operations.

Those who have similar problems please call 017 755 1318 or write to harryswiftlet@yahoo.com.

First The Third Floor & After That the Middle !!!

(Look at the top entry opposite site of the monkey house)

Started the renovation works at a BH in Bukit Selambau, Kedah on Monday Feb 3rd 2013.

A sizeable unit measuring about 80 feet by 30 feet and three stories high.

The front part is a kind of monkey house and at the back there was another entrance hole more like a top entry but the moment the bird came down they need to enter a window similar to a side entry.

This BH was put into operation for almost 20 months and the number of nests inside was about 60 nests.

The owner have this gut feeling that there must be something wrong with the BH.

There was another unit similar to his unit about 50 meters away and is doing better than him.

The irony to this strange happening is that how come the other unit which was owned by the same contractor is doing far better than the one that does not belong to him?

I was given the task to take a good look on the possible problems and put forward a number of recommendations that I believed to solve his problem.

My observations were nothing new and it was very obvious the last of nests were due to a number of things that was mentioned in my report.

"So Pak Harry what do you think you can do to improve the number of nests inside?"  he asked.

My sincere advise to him was to split the BH into two units.

The top most floor will become one unit (first unit) while the two floors below will be the second unit.

The first unit will have its dedicated top entry hole while the second will use the monkey house at the front part.

My plan is to use two separate sound systems.

The first unit will have its own external and internal sounds which will not be the same as the second unit.

By doing this the birds will have a choice.  Two good external sounds and they can pick the one that they are attracted to.

If there are more than one group or colonies they will have the chance to stay separately.

The first unit was about to be completed and I was happy that the revamp works makes it look better with more than 200 new internal sound tweeters and about 20 new external sound tweeters.

My sincere hope is that once those gadget are put into operation plus some special nesting planks aromas those birds will not leave the top floor the moment they entered.

Have a look at some of the new things that I have decided to introduced in this BH.

In Less Than 3 Weeks !!!

About three days ago a BH owner who recently received my parcel shipped via sea freight call for my email address.

At first I thought she wanted to send me the photo of her package (damaged).

It was not damaged but after applying the Pheromone she was shocked with the result achieved within less than 3 weeks.

Since I did not received any email I called her to confirm the email addressed and she send to me the same set of pictures twice.

The BH owner is a lady and she will never miss to meet me in Kota Kinabalu if she knows that I was visiting KK.

I took sometime just to hear what new developments on her BH and will always gave her my assurances and advise to keep working on the small BH that she owned.

During my first visit I told her to do some changes and use a new set of sounds.

She opted for Super Intan and SuperBabyking.

Within a few months she told me that the number of nests was a big surprised to her whole family.

The next meeting I told her about my new sounds plus this newly discovered nesting plank aroma which seems to be very effective in Sabah.

She gave no second thought and purchase a trial canister.

Within less than 3 weeks the result was unmistakeably marvellous.

Have a good look at what she sent to me and I hope there will be more from her.

I think those of you who have never tried this super nesting plank aroma please try.

The cost is nothing as compared to the result you will get.

Try one first and once you see those markings try to continue applying with additional canister.

More New BH With No Nest Stories From Sarawak !!!

Sorry that this article have to be removed due to some unforeseen circumstances.

I would like to apologies if I intentionally offended any person dead or alive.

My sincere intention is always the same.

If you have read my blog from the beginning until now you will know what I am trying to do.

I just want to express my professional views with the hope that those who follow my articles will learn something from every article.

There is no intention of trying to upset any one however if I unintentionally offended please accept my apology.

The Black and the Whitish Part !!!

You will be surprised when you read about this new and interesting information about swiftlet spools (poof or shit).

A new BH owner will be very happy if he sees lots of bird shits on his new BH floors.

This indicate there were birds that entered and stayed in his new house.

The new discovery that I wanted to share to my blog reader is why the spool are black and white in colour.

Usually the bottom part will be black and about 1/2 inch while the white looks more like being splattered on the floor.

The black part drop first and soon after the white part drop in liquid form.

I met this old friend of mine who happened to be an animal doctor.  He operate his own vet clinic in Sibu Sarawak.

"Harry the black part is the spool while the which coloured material is actually bird's urine."

Those birds when they do their business they will do both shit and urinate, according to this experienced Vet.

This information is interesting and new to me.

My nest question to him was like this:

"Doc when our BH is new or if we play a new sound the floor seems to have more white (urine) as compared to black (spool) coloured portion?"

His answer was simple:

Those are the kind of spool from young birds.  Their spool are with more white as compared to black coloured.

Reason being they are still not strong enough to catch those insects.  Less insect consumed means more water out of their body.

It make sense but I do not have any thing to proof otherwise.

So as at today you can easily guess what type of swiftlet are staying inside your BH.

Those will lots of white coloured materials in their spool are young birds while the standard matured birds will have less of the white coloured.

I hope this small information is useful to those who happened to see many kind of colours in a group of bird shits on the floor.

After 10 Months of Operation !!!

Have a look at these two video clips loaded by my student from Vietnam.

A properly designed BH, with proper sound system, lots of tweeters, fake nests and sprayed with Super Pheromone.

The final result for you to see after just 10 months into operation.

After 10 months into operation the number of birds increased from about 200 now 800 birds.

The BH owner is looking at 1000 birds once it is 12 months into operation.

Have a look at this clip:

According to him the use of super pheromone was one key factor in drawing more birds from his neighbours.

Nearly all those birds that passed by his BH will enter and stay as his tenant.

A very unusual progress but not surprise in Vietnam.

Sabah Is More Aggressive In Their Swiftlet Farming !!!

From the way things are moving I think the state of Sabah have a better future in Swiftlet farming in Malaysia.

The state seems to be the first to announce the guideline that was recently adopted.

The rest seems to have no direction.

I was in Sarawak recently and the stories given by my contact seems to be totally negative.

They don't even know when the state of Sarawak will adopt the so called guidelines.

No one wanted to say anything and you don't really know who can we talk to in giving a talk about Swiftlet Farming Guidelines for the state of Sarawak.

"Pak Harry after one week of being kicked around I wanted to give up."  A sincere comment by my partner whom I asked to get the local authority to give a one hour talk on the selected topic.

Last month when I was in Sabah I can feel the good vibes from two of their officers who joined me to give a one day swiftlet farming seminar in Semporna.

The officers seems to be very friendly with all the participants and is willing to help those who would like to get any license that will help to promote the industry.

"Pak Harry we will give free service to ensure that any person who owned a BH be registered as our producer.  In the meantime we are about to approve one more company to be Sabah third exporter to China."

These change of attitudes are very helpful to all our BH owners and processing centres.

I hope the other states in Malaysia will follow Sabah's attitudes.

Please read this latest news from Sabah Mysinchew.com and found at http://www.mysinchew.com/node/82442

Bird's nest production to top RM3.5bn in 2020

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is expected to have 63,000 swiftlet premises in 2020, producing 870 metric tonnes of bird's nest worth RM3.5 billion.
Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Yahya Hussin said this is based on the high value and large potential for swiftlet farming in the country.
He said in 2010 alone, the production of bird's nest was around 290 metric tonnes valued at RM1.2 billion.
"The government has identified swiftlet farming as a high potential industry, and as such, accorded it priority in the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP)," he added.
He was speaking at a ceremony to officiate the opening of the Certification Seminar for good swiftlet Farm Practices Scheme (SALT) here today.
Yahya, who is also the state Agriculture and Food Industries Minister said in Sabah, the production of Edible Bird Nest (EBN) had long been practised, particularly, traditional bird's nest of high quality from caves, including Gua Guomantong and Gua Madai.
He said the export value of bird's nest contributed by Sabah was in the range of about RM13 million to RM17 million annually, with the main markets being Hong Kong and China.
He said apart from caves, the rearing of swiftlets was on the rise. "According to the Sabah Wildlife Department, in just 2009, there were 500 swiftlet premises in the state," he added.
Yahya said however, over the last two years, the market for bird's nest had fallen, following allegations that it contained nitrite which could endanger the health of consumers.
"Following enforcement to ensure zero nitrite by China, the price of bird's nest suffered a sudden fall of up to 50 per cent.
"The Malaysian government however, has discussed with its Chinese counterpart, on ensuring that the quality of bird's nest from the country met the standards set," he added.
Yahya said that for last year, 43 swiftlet premises in the state had met the SALT certification, and in 2013,, the Department of Veterinary Services and Animal Husbandry (JPHPT) had targeted 300 premises.
He expressed the hope that more plants for the processing of bird's nest would be established, making Sabah the main producer of the product of high quality, which also met the standards of importing countries.

A New BH That Will Have Problem In Siburan Sarawak !!!

Yesterday I was in Kuching Sarawak.

I was on my way home to Kuala Lumpur but decided to stop over in Kuching just to meet some friends before rushing home.

My first friend was this old student who attended one of my Swiftlet farming seminars long ago.

He pick me up at the airport and why driving towards Kuching town he explained his unsuccessful dealings with a number of Government Department to ask them to participate in my March 2013 Swiftlet Farming Seminar in Kuching.

"Pak Harry I spend more than one week running from one department to another like being kick around and no body wanted to help me to join our scheduled seminar in Kuching." he affirmed.

I was pretty disappointed however I told him that there must be some other easier method to rope someone that I know to help in our noble intention.

"Don't give up and I think there is some one who will have breakfast with us tomorrow who could be our saviour." I try to calm him down.

The second person met me the next morning for my fist breakfast at my hotel.

His name was Mr Bong number one.  He claimed to operate 7 BHs and wanted to collect the "Super Pheromone" from me.

I told him that I managed to bring a canister and lucky not to be detected by the airport authorities.

After wrapping out my discussion with him I was picked up by a friend who took me to a Sarawak Laksa at a shop facing the Grand Continental Hotel.

We later proceed to inspect a BH under construction in Siburan.

"Pak Harry this BH belong to my Church Pastor.  The wall materials were specially imported from mainland China." he wanted to stress of this special technology that might be good for the local swiftlet industry.

I took a good look at the imported materials and confess to him there was nothing special about it.

I remember visited a small makeshift factory in Papar Sabah that manufactured the same method of wall materials.  However the local made uses 6 inches thick styrofoam materials and sandwiched in between those cement boards.

The China made wall material was using 4 inches styrofoam and sandwich in between those magnesium oxide boards laced with some kind of fibre glass mats.

The next thing that we did was to inspect the BH inside.

This was where I discovered some interesting new things but there were many gross mistakes that I strongly told my friend to avoid from being repeated.  My friend wanted to use the same building material to build one BH for himself.

The monkey house design was not right, I told him.

I showed him what was wrong and what kind of correction to be done.

My main concern was the floor of the monkey hole area was not flushed.

The LAL was too small and difficult to find by those birds.

The two entrance holes were also too small and not properly positioned.

The nesting planks were wrongly orientated.

There were no rooms (VIP room) on both floors.

The total length should have been extended by one more column to make the nesting room darker.

The ground floor area should have been designed as such that once the two floors upstairs are fully occupied you should be able to expand downstairs.

If he wanted to use the same technology try not to engage the building materials producer to be your BH designer.

Let the producer specialized in his production works and have some one else to design the BH for you.  You cannot afford making mistakes.

Mistakes will be costly.

Have a look at these pictures taken.

The cost of this BH was about RM 180,000

Remember try to get the design right.  Even the new technology wall material works but your BH design must be proper.

My final words to him was to take note those mistakes and if not corrected this BH will have zero nest for a few good years.

The BH Above A Funeral Parlour In Sibu !!!

Sorry that the article have to be removed as requested.

My humble apology to anyone who was offended due to this article.

My intention is to let others know what can be the reason why a BH is empty for so long with the hope that it can be reactivated.
