Another Birdcall Test But This Time About 1300 Birds Responded !!!

(Try to count how many responded during the test)

This time I was taken to Rembau N9 where a new Agriculture Project was half way their construction stage.

This Rimbunan Kasih is the first in Negeri Sembilan and situtated somewhere at Kampung Ragut.

Before reaching the site the rain was heavy.

When we arrived the place was filled with rain water and it was drizzling.

The site manager took us to a place near the water catchment pond.

I took out the test gadget and played the Duress sound.

Within 10-15 minutes the number of birds responded shot up to more than 1300 swiftlet.

This indicate that this particular location is a good place to built a BH.

The best, I told the person who took me there was near the water pond where those birds love to get their drink and perhaps hunt for food.

Overall the place seems to be the best among the four that I was taken to.

Tonight need to prepare the visit report.

Have a look at some pictures taken.

Breeding Research Works Is Going Well !!!

Even with my hectic schedule I managed to drop at UPM to check on the progress of the swiftlet breeding operation.

The person in charge told me that out of 227 eggs 140 hatched. 8 died and the rest waiting for their turn to hatch.

The 140 are doing well and as compared to the previous exercise the birds are eating well and growing.

I briefed the caretaker on what I wanted him to do especially the procedure that he used.

This project might be small but it will be a very important part of our swiftlet industry.

I stressed to him that if his breeding method works we can use it to populate the many BHs that are empty.

It can also be used to turbo charge a new BH.

If for example a normal BH that are totally dependent on those wild flying birds can have 100 nests a year, we can perhaps push it to perhaps 500 nests a year.

He understood my intentions and will  his best to complete the paper works.

His main problem currently is a kind of safety.

Last night he stumbled on a thief ransacking his working place.

He managed to shoo thief  away but after a few hours the thief came back.

Due to this unforeseen circumstances he have to move the baby birds to another safe location.

Today he was at the police station to report on the incident.

One of the major cause of baby birds death according to him was getting chocked.

They will turned blue color if they eat too fast or the food is too watery.

I told him to capture the blue colored birds to get the photo in his report.

There is also some problem about mixing the food with boiled water.

It cannot be to soft but at the same time cannot be too hard.

His current feeding method is to use those syringe without needle in front.

The syringe will be used to suck the liquid food into the container and ejected into the baby bird's mouth during feeding.

Normally when they are hungry they will start to make cry for food.

Once fed they will be pretty quite.

Once they are hungry it seems that they will crawl out of the fake nest where they are put into.

This makes it necessary to but the fake nests where they are kept on the floor of the container.

Remember when they wanted to shit they will push their shit out of the nest.

There will be a lot more to be recorded and I sincerely hope this project will be successful.

Call me if you have any additional advises to be used by the caretaker.

3X Super Pheromone In Canister For Auto Spray !!!

Finally the correct canisters suitable to be used with auto spray gadget were delivered to me.

The last batch were wrongly canistered.

This small number of samples will be used at some selected BHs.

My plan is to talk to a few BH owners who are prepared to assist me with the monitoring of how effective will be the product.

Currently two person have showed interest and both owned BHs with a reasonable number of nests inside.

The first selected BH is somewhere in Raub Pahang with about 1000 nests.

The owner have agreed to follow my directive.

I told him where to install and how to activate the auto spray machines.

The second BH owner who have showed high interest in applying this new technique owned a number of BHs in Kemaman.

He spoke to me a couple of days ago on how within less than one month a total of 30 fake nests he installed and applied with 2X super pheromone were with tenants.

They took less then one month to complete building and most of the nests were with one egg.

My request to him was to install at least two auto spray in one of the VIP room.

He need to count the number of nests inside and once used try to check for any increase.

It would be ideal if he can install those CCTV cameras to see how the spray effect these wild birds.

The balance unit will be used at a number of BH whose door keys are kept by myself.

I need to deploy all the 10 canisters within next week.

After one or two months wanted to check on its result.

Those who are keen to try please call me at 017 7551318.

This trial samples are limited in number but if the number of calls is good I will arrange for another 10 canisters.

Just call me as soon as you read this article.

Somewhere At A Place Called Rantau, N9.

(The front gate of this 27 acres orchard with one BH on each acre of land in Rantau)

Today April 14th 2014 visited a BH located on an acre of land that was not doing well.

The owner related his side of the story on how he got into the BH business.

The project was launched a few years ago by a company called Sunrise Brothers.

The developer owned a number of successful BHs in Lukut and Port Dickson.

For this project the company divided a 27 acres of orchard land into once acre each.

Each acre they erected a BH.

So all the 27 BHs are actually competing with each other.

The nice thing about the project is that each owner own a BH and a piece of land, 1 acre, with some fruit trees and a pond.

After inspecting one of the 27 BHs, I told the owner about what I think his BH is:

1) The BH was a bit hot inside and I discovered later that all the walls were single type.

2) The air flow inside the BH was a bit stiff and again it was due to those ventilation holes that were blocked both by a plastic cap and those paint applied on them.

3) The entrance hole used was the top entry type.  The entrance area was okay but a bit too little number of external sound tweeters.

4) The hexagonal was okay but could be better.

5) There were some good signs of bird shit spots on the floor.  Nearly all these marking on the floor was below those internal sound playing tweeters.

6) The strange thing observed was that even with a very thick layer of bird shit on the floor but there were very little nest markings.  This must be caused by something that prevent those couples from building their nests.  I suspect the temperature and the lighting.

7) The number on internal sound tweeters on each floor was not more than 30 pieces.  I think the number is too little since most of them (60%) were with bird shit markings below them.  If he should have increased say 300 per floor he might now be having a total of 60% of 300 per floor or 180 bird shit spots.

8) I was not very fascinated on how the internal sound tweeters were installed.  The consultant have very little idea on how to handle those swiftlet.  The way he installed is like making those swiftlet life very difficult.  He should have make it easier to lure them to immediately adopt the BH.

9) There was no external sound tweeters inside the nesting rooms.

10) The external sound was okay and the internal sound was the Babyking.

11) During the data room inspection I discovered that one of the internal sound playing amplifier was not functioning.

12) One very interesting gadget that the consultant installed was a light on the lowest floor inside a kind of wooden enclosure.  This might be a kind of light to help those birds to come down or find their way out.  Something that I have never thought of.  I think this consultant must have used this gadget in his other BHs.

13) There was not a single fake nest found inside the BH.

I stressed to the owner his BH is like an ordinary car with very little gadget to push the car to move faster.

If he continue running as the current system I think the nest population will be very slow in increasing or perhaps stop multiplying.

He asked my favor to put a paper about what should be done and I am sure if he followed my recommendations his BH might be moving toward the right direction.

Interesting Progress On My Swiftlet Farming Activities !!!

(The BH in Tawau that applies my idea on volume control.  If you want those birds to populate the floor which you have selected, get the internal sound louder then the rest of the floors)

I would like to tell you humbly that I think there are a few interesting happenings that can help the industry.

One of the most interesting is about the BH design aspect.

More and more people are accepting the fact that the main entrance hole should be facing the morning sun.

If you entrance hole is facing the opposite site i.e. the west, you will find that your tenants will not move to the lower floors.

They will more often than not stays near where the morning light will guide them out of the BH.

If you currently owned a BH and is facing the WEST please check where those birds prefer to stay.

I guarantee you that most of them will either be the top most floor and a few at the middle floor and very closed to the monkey house areas.  The lowest floor will have very little or nil.

Another hot news direct from Tawau is about the internal sound volume.

"Pak Harry, we applied your sound volume control technique. My BH now have marking on the lowest floor which was lack of activities before this.  The idea of using louder volume on this floor as compared to the other floor seems to work for my BH.  Thank you for sharing the idea."

More or less the precise word from a Tawau BH owner whose house I inspected a few months ago.

I explained to the owner why and they tested my prediction.  It was true !!!

The next very interesting news is about the erection of VIP rooms inside BHs.

I have a meeting with this family from Kuala Lipis and one of them was talking about this VIP rooms concept.

It seems that many people in Kuala Lipis are talking about it and more and more are applying the concept.

You know something, I have another prediction.

This is about the release room.  I have been toiling with the idea of breeding those baby birds from hatching of their eggs and feed them until they reach 44 days old.

Remember these young birds will usually take their maiden flight on the 45th day after hatching.

Once they are 44 days old we can move them into the release room on the ground floor of the BH.

If this method works I can safely say that the release room will become a must have room in the future.

I have geared the idea to all my new customers and at the same time working closely with UPM to come out with the SOP on how to breed these birds.

The 227 eggs collected and incubating have resulted in 17 young birds being hatched (as at April 11th 2014) and growing nicely.

I spoke to the person in charged and told him how important is this SOP will be to the Industry and not me.

He took my advice seriously and promised to gather all the necessary and important notes on every aspect of breeding those young chicks.

I hope within the next three to four months the draft of the SOP will be ready and hope to sit down with UPM on the draft.

I will insist the UPM guys to provide details on the fooding materials and how to prepare them.

I wanted to precisely know when to feed them and how the food are prepared during their grown up stages.

If you wish to have one copy to use please let me know.

It will be nice if this new idea become a normal practice to all BH owners especially those who owned sick BHs.

Remember you need to repair your BH first before using this new method.

All you need to do is to call this number 017 7551318017 7551318.

Let me view your BH and make known what should be done.

Please remember, my service is more like a sifu who wanted to help and not to harm or con you.

Adjusted The Clock On The Birds Counting Machine !!!

Last week or so managed to get the supplier of the Pantai Remis BH bird counting machine to reset the clock timing.

With the correction I got the time to monitor from 19:00 to 20:30 hours.

So far so good and I wanted to share some very strange readings that were captured from Sunday April 6th 2014 till Friday April 11th 2014.

Have a look at this photo snapped:

The number of birds entering from 7:00 pm until 8:30pm fluctuate from as high as 294 and as low as 140 birds.

There must be some explanation to the above fluctuation but I have a few to share:

1) It could be due to the weather.  Now we have this raining weather and every time it rained in the evening there will be a higher number of birds entering or leaving the entrance hole.

2) I was playing two external sounds in one thumb drive.  It could be that during the time when the 1st sound is played during the last part of the day time the birds are more attracted to the entrance hole.

3) It might be that those birds that have laid eggs and incubating them returned hole earlier or never leave the BH at all.

4) Some of the birds might return home late ie after 8:30 pm.

No matter what was the real reason I can see the numbers coming into the BH during that selected time frame.

I have instructed the programmer to have one more page to detect the morning activities.

I asked him to install an additional page that will record the number of birds leaving the BH from 6:45 am till 8:00 am.

Once this is done I can now have the ability to check the number of birds that leave in the morning and returned in the evening.

The above gadget is under evaluation and there will be a lot more to be done.

For example it cannot send the SMS message every day after the 8:30pm.

Need a programmer for this and the system need to be upgraded to adroid tab.

No matter how bad it is now it is still one of the best idea for 2014.

From now we have something to measure those wild birds when they return and leaving our BHs.

Call me if you wish to have one install at your BH.

My number is 017 7551318

How To Get Rid Of Those Termites Found Inside Your BH !!!

For any termite colony your BH is a good source of food.

Those nesting planks are tasty to them.

Once there are signs of termite trails you know that your BH is under attack by them.

If you do nothing to stop them, you will sound find out that all your wooden stuff eaten away from the inside.

I remember a guy whose BH roof trust were made of wood.

He told me about what he found inside his BH.

All that he said was that there were a few trails of those termites coming from the floor and move up to the roof.

He did not take much notice and within a few month the roof collapsed.

The most horrible thing to happen and try not to take it lightly and for granted.

What I recently discovered is the use of this paste that will cost you very little as compared to engaging those pest removing agents.

One tube is only RM 50 and all you need to do is to fill it into a straw about 3 inches long.

Bring the filled straw to the termite trails inside your BH.

Break the trail and place the opened part of the straw on the trail.

Soon when those termites located the broken trail they will send reinforcement to repair the damage and will find the paste.

Once they taste the paste they will collect them and carry to their nesting chambers.

Once they feed the rest especially the queen, the whole colony will be eradicated.

You need to ensure that every trail will be inserted with one straw at least.

Call me if you are facing the termite problem and try to buy one if you own a BH.

Another BH Owner Who Happened To Be The Cousin Of Pacitan BH Owner !!!

Exactly the same problems made by the same Consultant.

I was waiting for my worker to pack and get ready to move out of the Pacitan BH when a 4X4 truck entered the BH compound.

I greeted the car owner and asked him if there is anything that I can help.

His answer was interesting.

"I drop by because I saw those black orchid mat covering my cousin BH.  You see I also owned a BH about two minutes drive from here and after 3 years into operation only two nests until now.  Can you take a look and tell me what is wrong with it?"

I agreed to follow him and the moment I entered his BH I noticed something very similar to the BH that I just finished revamping.

I asked him if he was using the same Consultant used by his cousin?

He smiled but did not reply my question.

It seems that this so called Consultant con the two cousins and both face exactly the same problems.

The whole house was very bright.

The temperature must be about 33*C.

The same wall thickness were used.

The ventilation holes elbows were turned facing the ceilings.

The gap between those nesting planks were about 3 feet wide.

The Consultant have this habit of splashing bird shit mud onto all the walls.

There was not a single external sound tweeters inside the nesting rooms.

The internal tweeters were not installed facing the flying path.

There was not a single partition to block those bright light shining into the rooms.

A big disaster and I feel so sorry for this poor BH owner.

He mentioned that there were a number of his friends who used the service of the same consultant not one are having birds inside their BHs.

What a shame and I simply could not understand why these poor guys were easily cheated.

On my way back to the revamp BH I told him what can be done and how much will be its cost.

The new friend seems to be very pleased with my quotation.

"Give me a few days to think and I will contact you.  I have invested a lot of money and I am sure your help will bring my BH back its life."

I hope I can be of help but who knows.

I took him into the revamped BH and he was very pleased with what I have done.

"So different from what it was before, Pak Harry.  A very good job and I and very impressed with your workman ship." his comment.

The Revamp Works For A BH At Kampung Pacitan, N9 Finally Completed !!!

Today, Friday 10th 2014, mobilized my workers out of the BH after 8 days of revamping works.

I feel very happy that I have done the best with the very limited resources.

The BH owner could not pay the amount I quoted but managed to pay about 70%.

I still completed the scope of works that I have indicated to him.

You can see from the photos on some of those things done.

The walls were covered with orchid netting.  The internal temperature now is below 31*C.

The entrance hole was opened and I make it larger.

The bottom frame I placed those owls spikes.

Installed a hexagonal tweeter just above the main entrance hole.

Also installed 4 power tweeters on the monkey house roof areas.

The tweeters at the window I added two pieces of pole tweeters.

The old LAL hole were totally shut off.

A new LAL hole was opened at one area where those birds entered have to fly above it.

To darken the nesting rooms a number of partition walls were erected.

The nesting planks were added with crossing woods.

The crossing areas were installed with cluster tweeters, randomly.

There were two chocolate tweeters per floor.

I personally installed those fake nests and sprayed them with super pheromone.

Removed one of the old amplifier and replaced with a new model.

Installed the last tango system.

Just have a good look at these pictures comparing before and after.

Well if you are facing similar problems inside and outside your BH, please call me.

I am very happy to compare the before and after:
____________________________________________________________________________________

(Before)

(After)
This netting technique will reduce the internal temperature by about 2-3*C.  If given a choice I would like to install those insulation bubble sheet foils on the inside walls.  If both are carry out the temperature inside will be down by at least 5-8*C.
______________________________________________________________________________

(Before)
The hole was shut to this small size when the owner found that his BH was attracting those owls.
When he shut the hole to the small size, those swiftlet shy away from the house.

(After)
The old size was way too small to attract those wild birds to enter the house.  I managed to increase it to 2.5' wide and 2'5' long. Lined with wood and insert those owls prevention 8" spikes on the lower frame.
___________________________________________________________________________________

(Before)
The nesting planks were not well laid and too far apart.

(After)
Look at the crossing woods installed, the cluster tweeters, the chocolate tweeters and fake nests?  If you look carefully all the above are done with passion.  They look more attractive and useful in luring those wild birds to be its tenant.
______________________________________________________________________________________

(The LAL Before)
The LAL was not at the right location.  I decided to shut it completely.

(The New LAL After)
The old LAL hole was completely shut down since it was wrongly located. I opened a new LAL just below the main flying in path and about 4' by 6 feet just after the main entrance door below the monkey house .
___________________________________________________________________________________

(Before)
This additional air hole, the one with a wood above it, seems to make the nesting room very bright.
(After)
I covered it with cement board.  Now the nesting rooms are darker and more attractive to those swiftlet.
___________________________________________________________________________________

(Before)
The 4 inches PVC pipe elbow were with no extension pipe and the flower bricks were making the nesting room very bright.

(After)
The ventilation holes were installed with about 2 feet long extension and the flower bricks were totally shut.

___________________________________________________________________________________

All you can see is that dedication and hard work to improve a sick BH.

I don't think there is any one in Malaysia who is as crazy as I am.

I love the industry and I would like to change the mind set of those who wanted to own a good BH.

Try not to let your "Consultant" to cheat you with poor completed BH.

Print these photos and show to him what you desired inside your BH.

If he cannot comply ask him to take a hike and call 017 7551318

If you need any help call me at 017 7551318

Birdcall Test At Tanjung Besar, Kuala Lipis, Pahang !!!

This was my third site inspection for a client who wanted my professional advise about having a BH in the area.

The third tested area was inside the compound of an advance agricultural park called Ribunan Kasih.

The project have something tho do with the deployment of new and advance method of breeding fish, chicken and how to grow rock melon from those fish waste.

A very impressive method of putting modern agriculture technique to those rural poor.

My mission was to conduct the bird call tests to confirm if the area is suitable for swiftlet farming.

Two tests were conducted one in the evening and the second in the morning.

I was happy with the result and the surrounding was perfect for those insect to breed.

Have a look at a number of pictures taken and see if can learn more about this place.
