Revamp Of A BH in Kuala Krai EcoPark !!!

(Power Twin Tweeters)

My current project is at Kuala Krai Swiftlet EcoPark, in Kelantan, Malaysia.

The BH was purchased by a local who has little knowledge on how to convert and manage his new investment.

Due to some misadventure the unit was converted by someone who seems to have very little knowledge about swiftlet farming and after 8 months the house has only two bats.

A very common mistake and you should try to avoid it.

I was asked to inspect the BH about three months ago and after submitting a 10 pages report the owner wanted my help to revamp the BH.

Four days ago packed some relevant items and workers to Kuala Krai.  The work done is currently about 50% done and hopefully by this coming Thursday it will be completed.

The area of concern were:

1) The bird house was a bit too bright.
2) The original entrance hole was not properly used.
3) There was no VIP room(s).
4) The nesting planks were too dirty with foot markings.
5) The type of tweeters used as internal sound were not suitable.
6) Tweeters installation were incorrect.
7) The front wall facing the morning sun was to hot.
8) The nesting planks installation were a bit too wide with little crossings.
9) The house floors were too dusty.
10) Now humidifier was provided.
11) The type of sound used was not very attractive.
12) The walls colour was a bit to bright.
13) The house was a bit empty with nothing to lure those wild birds.

To summarise the BH was not ready for occupation.

The way to go is to upgrade the BH with some new equipment, gadgets and erect a number of walls.

The sound system will be changed to a newer type of amplifiers and both the external and internal sounds will be a more effective.

This new masterpiece will be installed with about 8 sets of twin power tweeters all around the BH and shall be operated between 6:30 pm till 8:00pm.

Let us do some research on how to get your BH to be the most active in a densely populated BH area using those twin power tweeters.

If you need to purchase a set let me know.

Each set is only RM 120 without any postage cost added.

My Home Computer Was Done For A Couple of Days !!!

I was out of action for a few days when my home computer connection was out.

It seems that the modem supplied by TM unify was a bit overworked and burned.

Yesterday a new modem was installed, a much larger with more ventilation holes.

There were a number of new activities that I have been busy with.

The first was to assemble my workers to pack and move to Kuala Krai.

The second activity was the monitoring of a BH in Karak, Pahang.

The base of a 30'X80'X3stories was about to be ready.

The site supervisor seems to be facing with too much rain.

The construction was a bit slow and the owner is not very happy with the progress.

Have a look at these pictures and you will see the progress.

Those who wish to visit the site please let me know.

Ayer Kuning: Four Days And The Results So Far Is Exciting !!!

The Ayer Kuning BH owner was very pleased to see about 25-30 bird shit spots in his recently revamped BH.

I took some time to drive up to Ayer Kuning yesterday to install two cool mist machines that was delivered two days after I put the BH into operation.

The most exciting was to see more than 5 bird shit spots on the ground floor. the lowest and most unusual place of the BH.

Prior to my revamp works there was not a single bird shit spot on any of the floors.

I think he knows very well that those birds have started to enter and a few have stayed as his permanent tenants.

"Pak Harry, I think the revamp works are working and every evening I can see a reasonable number of birds entering both the old and new entrance holes."

What is so special about this BH was that it was situated between the pig shit pond, a big water reservoir and a chicken farm.

I noticed that these swiftlet will travel from the pig farm and the chicken farm on a kind of rotation basis.

They will focus or start with the chicken farm and after that will fly in a group to the pig shit pond. When doing that routine they will be passing the BH in operation.

I am sure there will rotate their food hunting for at least three to four time in the morning and later part in the evening.

At times they will fly to the reservoir to hunt for insects but will also skimmed on the water surface for a sip.

After counting the number of bird shit spots the owner quickly rushed me to a newly build row of shop to check if their are any sign of birds.

I brought along the test gadget and conducted about 20 minutes test call.

There were at least 30 birds responded.

"Pak Harry, what do you think?  Should I buy one of the unit?"

"If you are confident enough why not?  If you are the first I think you have a very good chance.", I told him.

I think after seeing his Ayer Kuning BH progress he now have a higher confident level.

I am sure he will be calling me to renovate the new shop house soon.

Good luck to him and I know now he is a much happier person.

He keep saying that he was very lucky to have met me.

Prior to this his BH was empty for almost 6 months.

This was his story on how he got my contact:-

One day when attending a GAHP (Good Animal Husbandry Practise)  Seminar in Ipoh, I was the last person arrived, he recalled.

There was an empty chair at the back row.  I quietly took the seat beside this old man.

At first we were quiet but after some time we introduce to each other.

I told him about my predicament about an empty BH of mine and this old man asked me to contact you Pak Harry.

He gave your phone number and told me that you are in Bidor revamping a BH there.

I immediately called you and drove to Bidor to meet you.  I never have that guy phone number and how I wish I could say thank you to him.

At first I was very scared to meet you alone.  I brought my wife.

"In case I don't come out within 45 minutes please call the police, I told her."

After viewing your work I think I met the right person.  That was when I invited you to come over to look at my troubled BH.

I am so glad that without any hesitation you took some time to drive up to Ayer Kuning and reviewed my BH condition.

From the report you submitted I know you are a good man and that was why I pushed my partners to allow me to appoint you to revamp our BH.

My partners now are very happy with me and with you.

Now every time they visit the Pig Farm they can see lots of birds playing at the entrance hole.

My comment to him was:

"Mr Chin I am just a passionate swiftlet farmer.  I am nothing and nobody. What I did was to help you with your problems.  If you know about these wild birds I am sure you will be better than me.  Try to look after your BH properly and if you face any problems let me know."

Inside me I feel very good and accomplished. I have done my best with his BH and the success is dependant on the location and the understanding of the wild birds.  You also need to have a good set of sounds.

Good luck to him.

The Flying Fox In Action !!!

Remember the article I wrote on those flying foxes?

The BH owner who reported his BH problem send me the attached video clip.

According to him the flying fox will wait for hours to start attacking those helpless swiftlet.

Out of ten they captured they will kill all but ate only two. Only some part of the body will be eaten.

What a horrible predator.

Just have a look at the clip and make sure the same predators are not in your BH.

Air Kuning Revamped BH Was Put Into Operation Mode Yesterday !!!

After about 7 days into revamp mode the BH at Air Kuning, Perak was put back into operation.

It was a straight forward revamp works which include the followings:

2) Opened an additional entrance hole on the Monkey house.
3) Erection of at least two walls to create VIP and VVIP rooms.
4) Installation of nesting plank crossings.
5) Installation of 45* wood corners to create those cluster tweeters installation.
6) Installation of two long range bazookas on the Monkey House rooftop.
7) Installation of TwinPower tweeters on the external walls of the Monkey house.
8) Installation of power tweeters for external sounds .
9) Installation of about 150 cluster tweeters.
10) Installation of about 500 single tweeters on the nesting planks.
11) Installation of two Hygrotemp humidifiers controllers.
12) Installation of two new amplifiers for the external sounds.
13) Old amplifiers were used to operated the three internal sounds.
14) Supplied new and more effective sounds to the BH.
15) Applied Mutiara Aroma on the walls and the floors.
16) Placed about 5 bags of fresh bird shit.
17) (To install two mist makers once arrived).
18) Installed about 8 pieces of chandeliers.

The BH was locked and wait for result status.

The owner was very grateful and keep saying that he will be calling me for celebration once we have a reasonable of nests in it.

I was very happy to have finish the task given and I can see that the roof top especially above the Monkey house were visited by swiftlet most of the time.

Yes those TwinPower tweeters were exceptionally good to lure more birds to the roof top areas.

(A new entrance hole facing the road)

(The floor slab being cut and removed)

(More floor slabs were taken out to allow birds to find their ways into the nesting rooms)

(Looking upward to the main entrance window from the middle floor)

(The VVIP room which is at the back of the floor)

(Installation of chnadelier tweeters)

(The pig farm just beside the BH.)

At last now I can breath fresh air and not those pigs smell. He he he....

A New Set Of Highly Effective Sounds That You Should Have!!!

If you already have all those sounds that I posted in this blog, you should consider looking at upgrading these sound sound with the latest.

I have a total of five good sounds that will make those birds keep entering your entrance hole.

The new set of sounds I call them as the Super Series.

They have been tested and works perfectly at a few location:

Each will be sold at RM800 but if you buy all the five the price will be only RM3,000 , limited to only 10 individuals.

The name of these new sounds will be:

1) SuperGold
2) SuperIntan
3) SuperScrew
4) SuperIwan
5) SuperPukau

They are the latest sounds in my collection and considered to be my top of the chart sounds.

Each will be 60 minutes in running time and inclusive of a thumb drive.

The sounds will be locked to avoid any duplication.

The TwinPower Tweeters at your Entrance Hole !!!

If you BH happens to be on an agricultural land and far away from any residential areas, I recommend you to re look at the roof top of your monkey house.

We know that this will be where those swiftlet will start their journey into your BH.

They need to start by coming over the rooftop and start to enjoy listening to those external sound played.

Once they feel that the sound is attractive enough they will start attacking or packing the tweeters playing those sounds.

When their numbers increased there will be some that are bold enough to fly into the BH via the entrance hole.

Usually this will make the rest to follow and soon all will enter your BH.

Usually they will fly in and out but there will some who will stay longer than the rest.

The more the numbers entered the better will be the chances of you getting some to stay.

The issue here is how many can you get above the roof top and how many will enter?

This is why you need to give some attention to the roof top areas, especially on the monkey house areas.

Well during my recent visit to Pancing, Kuantan, I was given a chance to visit a newly launched BH that was considered to be the best among the many new BHs around the area.

Within less that 2 months the number of bird shits inside the BH was more than a few hundreds (200 plus).

The group who invited me wanted my expert opinion on why the house is better than their own BH about 800 meters away.

The moment I came out of the car, parked at the front part of the affected BH, I can hear the loud sound coming out from the roof top.

I could not see any hexagonal tweeters but there were these twin tweeters that were hung around the entrance hole.  This particular BH was using the top entry design.

I have never seen or observed any other BH using this special technique and I think this is another interesting discoveries that might be of special interest to any new BH owners.

I will try to assemble a set and take some pictures of how the two high powered tweeters were assembled and placed at the entrance hole areas.

In Air Kuning, Perak, I deployed the idea and you will be very surprised what happened.

My idea was to install two sets of the assembled tweeters at one side of the entrance hole, about 2 feet to the left and the right.

Since there were two entrance holes, I deployed four sets. I term this as "twinpower"

The sound to these four (8 high powered tweeters) were connected to a separate amplifier playing the most attractive sound.

Something very interesting and worth to try.

Use those high powered tweeter with special mouth.

Will take some photos for all to learn more.

Is It Possible To Repopulate A Vacant Cave ?

This morning I was invited to have breakfast with a Dato from Sabah.

All he wanted to know was is it possible to repopulate a Cave that was once with thousands of swiftlet nests.

He came to Kuala Lumpur to attend a business meeting and while waiting for his flight back to Sabah he called me to meet for a cup of coffee.

The sad thing that happened during the breakfast meeting was that his dear mother passed away in a hospital back in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The doctor in charged called him to inform about his sick mother.

I felt the sadness that he endured to lose someone so dear to him.

I told him that I too lost both my parent about two years ago.

You feel so empty without them and every one of us will go through the same experience once in their life time.

At that particular time all you wanted was to have another few minutes to be with them.

What he wanted to ask me was on this particular idea of repopulating a cave that was once full of swiftlet nests.

"Pak Harry, I remembered those days when I used to be one of the nests harvester.  There were so many of them but now there were not a single nest.  Is there any way to bring them back?"

My frank answer to him was "We can try but I have never been asked to rehabilitate caves before."

If they have stayed there before I am sure they will be willing to return home but we need to prevent the same that caused them to move out.

After about 2 hours breakfast I told him to allow me to visit the cave and I shall bring a set of sound gadget to test if those wild birds will show any response.

My plan is to be in KK perhaps on the 3rd week of this month and visit the cave for two days.

In the meantime will assemble a set of sound system to carry over to the site.

My condolences to you and family Dato.

Mutiara Aroma Applied in Da Nang, Vietnam !!!

An email report about Mutiara Aroma used in Danang, Vietnam.

His preferred time of application is at 10:00 in the morning.

This is when the number of birds inside the BH is minimum.

The email just received about two days ago:

Quote:

Dear Sifu,

I just read your blog newest news about Mutiara Aroma.
This is my experience wanna share:

1st, current birds time in my city is 5:30AM start flight out, 6:00 PM end (following sunlight and most birds)

I think best time apply inside BH by hand is 10AM morning. This time is the lowest number of birds in your BH including nesting birds with babies and eggs. Not after 12 noon as some birds return home to hetching and feed their babies.

Every time I apply in the morning 10AM, on the same day in the afternoon, lots of birds coming after that until afternoon, and afternoon 5PM-6PM quite a lot than normal (2-3 times) (100% effective outcomes after apply mutiara aroma).

Sometimes I apply Aroma on the top BH roof (outside BH). The result was marvelous. 100-200 birds will come exactly. The time apply Aroma on the roof is 3 AM in the morning - very early, I make sure not scare them as they may drink it or shower it on BH roof.
I apply on roof with pressure machine and the system ready on roof. Just make a right time and turn it on whenever i want.

Hope this will help your confuseness when research!

Best Regards,
N

When Is The Best Time To Apply Your BH Aroma ???

If you are the type who love to apply aroma to your BH please read this article and perhaps try to reply if it is not true or true.

I was having dinner with a swiftlet enthusiast last night.  He fell in love with swiftlet farming just recently and was delighted to have met me for a couple of times.

After getting my advise and some sounds he now owned a BH in Pahang.

Every time when he comes to KL or PJ he will get me around for some chat.

Last night we talked about many things but one thing that he wanted to share with me were the following:

1) You Mutiara Aroma really works.

I did not remember where he got the Mutiara aroma but he was dead sure I was the one who supplied the aroma to him.

He applied to the wall and the best was at the entrance window.

On the same day he and his partner saw with their own eyes that those birds simply cling on those affected walls.

It must be so good that his partner wanted it to be applied to the nesting plank.

I told him that Mutiara aroma is a bird shit water base so I do not recommend to be applied on those planks.

2) The best time to apply those aroma is between 3.00pm to 4:00pm.

This was the conclusion that he derived.

He was cock sure that timing is something very important when you apply the aroma.

Too late it will loose its effectiveness however tool late will scare away those birds.

I was experimenting with aroma application using those chicken coop mist maker and in one of the BH with CCTV cameras, I make some powerful discoveries to confirm his opinion.

This particular BH I set the mist blower to blow an aroma at 6:00pm till 6:10pm every day.

The do come inside from morning till 6:00pm but will stop entering immediately when the aroma was sprayed.

My observation seems to prove that if you apply those aroma too late, like just before they come home, the smell of those aroma will make them feel scared or unsafe.

Those smells will make them think that there was a big colony of birds that have just entered your BH thus going inside is a big risk.

This will be a big disaster if you do not readjust the timing to 3:00pm.

Remember these observation might be wrong but if you do have your own discoveries please let me know.

Please remember to email your constructive input to harryswiftlet@yahoo.com

A Very Clear Signs Of Owl Visited Your BH !!!

What are the signs that your BH being visited by Owl?

I was very fortunate to capture some pictures showing the signs and I would like to share these pictures with you all.

The pictures were taken in a BH located at a place called Kampong Pancing, Kuantan, Pahang.

The owner invited my good self to provide some comments about his two units of BHs on a piece of agricultural land with lots of birds flying all the around a large swiftlet fooding areas.

You can sea those young palm oil trees for as far as your eyes can see.

If you make a 360 degrees vision there will be always a group of swiftlet hunting for food.

I drove more than 3 hours from Kuala Lumpur to the location to reach.

"Pak Harry once you exit the Kuantan toll you will see a T junction with traffic light.  Please take the right turn and please drive for 10 kilometres and we will be waiting for you in a black Harrier."

The moment I saw the black coloured car I flash my light and they lead me into this thick palm oil plantation, about 8 kilometres deep into kampong.

Along the way there were at least 8 BHs and a few were under construction.

Upon reaching the 2.5 acres of land I was surprised to see two BHs about 10 meters apart.

"Pak Harry welcome to Pancing and we have two BHs here. One is in operation while the second unit is yet to be completed."

The first house was put into operation about 1.5 months ago, according to the owner.

The number of bird shit spots on the floor were reasonable more on the 1st floor and little on the lowest floor.

The first thing I did was to inspect the entrance hole positioning and the orientation to the flying path and the morning sun.

On the whole the BH was okay but there were many things that can be improved to get the attention of those wild swiftlet to enter into the house.

My final inspection was the data room.

The sound for both internal and external were a bit unusual.

I recommended them to replace the internal sound with "SuperBabyKing" and the external to "Marvellous Cloud".

Upon installation with proper volume setting those birds seems to be responding well to the sounds.

I can see a big smile on the owners face.

We found a place to have a cup of coffee and wrote about 10 pages of my opinion what they should do to improve their visitors numbers.

Before leaving I was given a short tour on their second BH, not completed yet.

This was where I saw lots of signs showing that there were at least two owl regularly visiting this new BH.

Have a look at the first picture showing a kind of excretion or vomit out of a carcass of a rat.

It seems that the owl will eat their meal by swallowing whole victim.  Once the flesh of their victim they will vomit the bones and skin out of their system.

Their shit are white in colour like those chalk.  Very little black or other coloured materials in their shit.

Have a good look and if you see something like these in your BH, there is a strong chance that your BH have a night visitor.
