Carey Island BH: The Top Floor is 3/4 Way Done !!!

The newly erected BH is currently under my care especially in the installation of nesting planks, about 4 metric tons, sound system, humidity system and the fabrication of VIP rooms.

We focused on the top most floor and as at today the floor is almost ready.

The nesting planks were all installed, the VIP rooms (2 rooms) were all erected after the installation of two walls.

I have also erected two more walls to force those wild birds to fly above the LAL hole.

No more short cuts but they are now forced to fly above the LAL hole.

This will help to force them to fly downstairs.

I have a short discussion with the caretaker that he need to strategies to populate the lower floor up to about 300 nests and after which he can alter the bird's flying in path by removing a few cement board partition walls.

He saw what I showed him plus I carefully explained to him why and how.

Every bird that entered the BH have to fly along a specific path and during which there will be a number of external sound tweeters which will force them to fly to the VIP rooms located on the lower floor.

They either will fly to the left or right VIP room.

The top floor VIP room seem to be shaping up nicely.

I took a lot of effort to clean the planks and installed those external and internal sound tweeters.

Once they were in place the installation of fake nests and aluminium wire mesh come into play.

After a knee cramped operation I manage to installed almost 250 fake nests plus about 100 wire mesh.

Enjoy the nice pictures showing you what were installed to attract the attention of those new couples that enter the BH.

Carey Island BH: The Owl Trap Catches Not One But Two !!!

Just what I expected when I installed one unit of the owl trap at this newly finished BH which I am now installing the nesting planks and sound system.

The signs of owls entering the newly constructed can be seen all over the floor (near the entrance hole).

They seems to bolder to enter deeper into the BH not only on the top floor but along the staircases and the middle floor.

The moment the owl traps arrive I instructed my workers to install at least one unit at the LMB wooden frame.

The following morning I was the first to open the main door and entered to inspect the trap.

Well from a far it looks like the trap captured one.

However upon closer inspection the trap caught two.

A very unusual occurrence but I was delighted to know that this trap works.

Let me share some of those pictures taken.

Ajil BH: The Owl Trap Works !!!

Last week two owls were trapped at Kepala Batas, Penang.

This week BH owner from Ajil Trengganu called to inform that her BH trap also captured one.

I was the one who installed it during revamping of her birdhouse about 4 weeks ago.

Her BH used to have about 40-60 nests but after being attacked by owls the whole house was left abandoned.

Her father could no longer be bothered with the BH.

Only after her father passed away did she took over and call me for some help.

I was happy to help her to revamp the two floors and shutting down the top floor in total.

One of those gadget that I installed was an owl trap.

I told her that we cannot take any chances.

It works and I was happy for her.

I keep telling her to report any progress and if she have any problem with it just call me.

If your BH face a similar problem cased by owls please call this number 017 7551318.

Ajil and Kepala Batas BHs: The Owl Traps Are Working So Far !!!

(How the snapping frame owl trap looks like)

One major culprit in damaging your birds population is the attack by common owls.

From my years of experience these owls seems to like using any unused houses that are with openings like windows or doors.

Swiftlet bird house is one of the favourite.

What I think they do every evening before they start their hunting works at night is to find a nice place to prepare their night.

First is to groom and while doing so will shit and urinate.

You will find their white urine and a kind of ball dung which they will release every day when they visit your BH.

They will enter your building even there is not a single bird nest inside.

Their main effect is when your BH is with nests population.

Once they attack the house all your birds will be reduced to 1/3 its original population.

They will continue to harass all your birds and one day nothing is left.

So what should be done?

Right now this special gadget is the most effective.

This month alone the gadget captured three owls at two BH locations.

In fact in one of the BH I installed two units and both captured one.

I call it as the owl trap.

It comes with this special spring action frame which when released will instanly trap any creature that sits of a piece of wooden bar.

A string is attached to the wood bar end and will pull the hook that holds the spring loaded frame.

The moment the hook is released the loaded coil will snap the frame into action.

Have a good look at these pictures.

The first was from a BH in Ajil Trengganu while the second was from Kepala Batas, Penang.

Caught two in one visit.

An amazing gadget which I think every BH should have.

Carey Island BH: The New BH Now Undergo Its Revamp Operations !!!

I started with the nesting planks installations.

We started it on the top most floor and moved towards the LMB areas.

Once done will move to the middle floor.

I took about three days to install about 3.5 tons of meranti red wood (medium hardness).

While busy with the nesting planks installations the VIP room wall on the top floor was up and completed.

I too was busy with the installation of mist pump piping.

Installed about 4.5 feet above the floor and now ready to receive those high pressured water.

This mist pump system will ensure the BH floors wet all the time.

The operation schedule for each mist pump will be as follows:

1) Four times a day using an ordinary timer with those small tooth.

2) The first will run for 30 minutes (2 teeth) and the next will be for 15 minutes (1 tooth).

3) The third timing will be again for 30 minutes while the 4th will be another 15 minutes.

4) If I choose at 8:00 am as the first setting time the second will be at 2:00 pm, third at 8:00 pm and the 4th will be at 2:00 am.

During every inspection the floor must be checked to see if the water on the floor is wet enough or to much water.

If too dry I will suggest to increase the timing.  Perhaps put it to run at 30 minutes all the four settings (2 teeth).

If the floor is too wet (flooded) the timer setting need to be reduce say 15 minutes per occasion.

Today Sunday June 12th, my workers are working to complete the top floor and by tomorrow I hope they will able to move down.

Have a good look at the completed works and please enjoy them.

If you wish to come to visit while I am still working please call me for suitable arrangements.

Call me at +60177551318.

The mist pumps comes in two types.  The 15 nozzles and the 25 nozzles.

Call me if you are interested in installing at your BH.

Kluang BH: The Nests Numbers Jumped Upward After My Followup Visit !!!

One of the many BH that have my special attention is this one in Kluang Johor.

Main reason being the owner of the BH constantly allow me to have the nests count figures.

Every month on the 1st week the owner will conduct his nest count and once finalized I will receive a snap shop of his report.

I put them into a chart and will do some analysis for him to know how good or bad his BH is doing.

If the number of nests keep increasing his BH will be in a good shape however .......

If the nest increment suddenly stop or moving backward, he need to arrest it.

This is one very good method to monitor how well your BH is doing.

Keep the record as per the number of nests per room will be the best.

What I discovered are the followings:

1) Every time I drop by to check the BH the nests number will immediately jump upwards.

2) If I stop coming for inspection in about 3 months the nest number will somewhat stop growing.

This tells me that the owner is not following what was asked.

He ignored the instructions provided.

He did not inspect the BH in total or he seems to have very little idea what to check or what to do.

What I did were the followings:

1) Check if the sound systems are running as per the setting.  Those timers must be right on time.

2) The floor must be wet.  This would meant that the mist pump and the chicken coop humidifiers must be properly set.  They must wet the floor and blew those mist when the humidity are below 87%RH.

3) Once the wetness and humidity machines are checked I will start climbing the aluminum ladder to spray the Super Pheromone.  Every fake nests must be sprayed with the SP at least twice.

4) I will usually changed the external sound after the 3rd or 4th month.  This is the only way to get those birds to be excited.  Once they got them self excited they will start to enter the BH.  Something like becoming frenzy.

5) The last thing which I normally do is to spray those Mutiara Aroma.  I will make sure that all the walls and floors sprayed.  I will give extra attention to the entry areas and the VIP rooms.  The aroma will not only provide the sweat aroma but also wet the BH.

If you owned a BH try to monitor the nests progress.

If you wish to see more nests every month try to follow the above steps.

Nothing is better by learning more about running your BH.

One good way is to attend my July 23rd 2016 Swiftlet Farming Seminar

Kepala Batas BH: Solved The Owl Problems Temporary !!!

(Two captured two weeks ago)
I am sure there will be many more owls around the area.

What I am happy about right now is that the owl traps are working.

Last weekend saw two owls trapped and dead.

The trapping gadget that was installed about two weeks ago hit their jackpot and two were dangling on it when I entered.

Managed to remove the dead carcass and reinstalled the trap.

I am happy that the traps works.

I have installed three right now.

If they still enter I will install a few more.

They are not welcome and I am going to make sure they understand my message.

Take a good look at these photos:

Sagil BH: The Key To Trap More Birds From Its Neighbor !!!

The Sagil BH nest count was carried out just before we finish the revamp operation.

The total number of nests was about 145 pieces.

The owner mentioned that when he took over the BH (she purchased it from a 3rd party) the number of nests then was about 60.

That was almost 4 years ago.  Mathematically the number of nests increase for the 4 years after she took over was 145-60= 85 nests.

I told her if she allow me to revamp it the nests number can easily be doubled within 8-10 months.

Her so called caretaker took 4 years to accumulate 85 nests while I was looking at 145 nests within 8-10 months.

From what I can see the number of nest might be more than 145.

This is mainly due to the next door's BH which looks like having quite a lot of birds flying in and out daily.

What will or can happen is the moving of those birds from the next door neighbor's across to this newly revamped BH.

The special things that will make them move are as follows:

1) The sound system.  I have designed as such that two external sounds will be played most of the time.  The best will be those sound using the bazooka and power tweeters.  The next very big favor are those AG 35 tweeters at the LMB mouth.  Prior to my intervention there was not a single tweeter at the lmb mouth.

2) The neighbor's BH is dead.  There was no sound coming from the BH.  It seems that the power supply was totally removed by a 3 rd party.  It might be the TNB personnel.

3) If the owner is not bothered about the electricity supply, I am pretty sure he also is not bothered about the BH internal features.  The BH must be very dry, lots of cockroaches, very bright and all these will easily make those birds to feel very uneasy.  The moment there is a better choice they will abandon the house.

4) The revamped unit now have adequate number of rooms that are darker and preferred by these birds.  They love to stay in a very dark room and far away from the LMB hole.

5) I have removed all old tweeters and installed with new one. The number of tweeters are almost triple as compared to the old arrangements (wrong arrangements).  All these tweeters were precisely installed to trap those wild birds.

6) I have installed a lot of fake nests to lure those young couples who are new and never erect a nest before.  These fake nests were sprayed with SP to make them more attractive.  I have found that the birds specie found in Sagil are those that love to erect their nests on fake nests.

7) One very interesting creation were those 90* corners.  The old method was to cover each and every 90* corners.  I removed almost half and exposed the corners to those young couples.  Beside opening the corner covers I cleaned them one by one before installing a triangular shape fake nest.

8) This BH was sprayed with Mutiara Aroma (MA) nearly every evening.  Just before we closed the BH door in the evening I make sure that they are sprayed with a few liters of MA.  The smell became so attractive and every bird that passed the LMB hole will enter the house.

9) This BH was well equip with a set of mist spray (25 nozzles) plus 4 sets of chicken coop humidifiers.  Two on each floor and both were attached to a Hygrostat that were set at 90%RH value.  The moment the humidity dropped to 87%RH the humidifier will be activated and once it reaches 93%RH it will automatically stopped.  The BH floor will be wet all the time.

10) One Owl trap was installed inside the monkey house wall.  Beside this gadget an 8 inch tall spikes plate was installed at the LMB mouth.

11) A number of external sound tweeters were installed inside the VIP rooms to ensure all birds that entered the LMB hole will traveled to extreme end of each floor.

13) All ventilation holes extension pipes were lengthen to darken the VVIP rooms.  Now if you enter the back room there will be very little light polluting the nesting rooms.

14) A new hole facing the east was opened allowing the morning light to shine into the monkey house.  This morning light will be beneficial to those birds to fly out in the morning.

15)  There will be a very strong chance that more birds will populate the ground floor.  Main reason is the installation of a number of external sound tweeters around the LAL hole.  When ever any bird wanted to enter the nesting room they will be drawn to fly downward to the lower floor.

All the above if you design for your BH will help to increase the number of birds flying in and probably will be your tenant.

What I can say is that these arrangement will guarantee that those couples staying just beside this BH will move in sooner or later.

Those young birds will be the first target but the old birds will soon move in too.

If you need any advise about your BH please call this number +6017 7551318

Sagil BH: Once The External Sounds Were Switched On !!!

Something that I am very proud to show the owner.

Immediately after finishing the revamp operation I switched the two external sounds.

Those swiftlet around the area seems to pay some kind of attention to it.

I wish within the next few months the nest population jump to at least 100% up.

Will let you all know when I have the opportunity to check the improvements.

Sagil BH: A Special Timer Was Set To Activate The External Sound Only At The LMB !!!

(Beside the 6 pcs of AG 35 complete with a hexagonal tweeter)

The Sagil BH location was a bit too close to residential houses.

I was not prepared to see local council notice on it's door.

I told the owner that if we can play the external sound at a particular time of the day (peak hours) at a reasonable sound volume it will be the safe bet.

What this BH has was a special timer that will do just that.

All the AG 35 tweeters installed on the LMB frame were pushed to face the sky and not those houses.

Tested a couple of times and it was running perfectly.

The key objective of this BH is to attract as many young birds from the BH next door.

Beside those young birds the old birds do have a window of opportunity about 10 days after their babies flew out of the nest.

The LMB position, the external sound placement around it plus the external sound playing time were designed to optimize the drawing of those young birds from its neighbors.

The owner's son participated in the BH revamp operation.

He took some task to count the number of nests in the BH (145 pcs).

I predict that within a couple of months (6-8) the nests number will jump by at least 100%.

If it triple I will be very happy and feel honor to achieve the record number.

Please take note that after buying the unit the owner claimed that the nests during the change over was about 60 nests.

The total number of nest increased (after 4 years) was only 145-60= 85 nests.

I am looking at 145 new nests within 6-8 months.

I assured the owner that he will get that number and may be more.

As long as the BH is not attacked by any predator, the sounds runs perfectly and no burglars ransacking it , I believed it can performed.

What we need to do now is to wait and see how the nests will start to climb.

Sagil BH: Not Taken Care But Now After Revamp Operation ???

An interesting article about a BH in Sagil Johor that was not running well for almost 4-5 years.

First I received a call asking for a cup of coffee.  I accepted the offer and told him to meet me at Plaza Damas Kuala Lumpur.

He came with his wife and son just to meet up with me so that they know what to do with the two BHs located at Tangkat and Sagil.

I can only brief to them about what I can help them out with their BHs but first I need to inspect the two BHs.

We sat a date and I met them in Tangkak town.

I was taken to view the first BH and after lunch I agreed to view the second BH located at Sagil about 5 minutes drive from Tangkak along the way to Segamat.

After looking at both units I offered to revamp the second unit with about 120-150 nests.

The first unit was with about 70 nests.

During the selection I told them why.

My normal experience is after every revamp operation the nests numbers will jump by double after 8-10 months.

Among the 2 the second unit has the highest nests numbers.

So it was more beneficial to work on the second unit.

I took a couple of day to pen down what I saw and what needs to be done.

I emailed the 30 pages to the owner and within 2 days he called asking me to start work.

I think after reading my report he was very convinced that his BH will have a new life.

His BH caretaker all along have been lying about why his BHs nests were not growing.

"You will waste money to have Pak Harry to revamp your BHs"  he keep pressing on the owner.

The owner have enough of his lying.

The two BHs have be growing like a snail walking on the yard.

Well after walking out on his 4 years caretaker he now realized how much he was loosing.

His BH was no longer hospitable to those birds.

After 11 days of revamp operation his Sagil BH now come to life.

From about 290 birds inside it jumped to almost double or maybe triple.

I was also stunt with the sudden jump.

Hopefully he will not allow the old caretaker to even enter this BH.

If he entered he will be either be surprised or sabotage the BH sound system.

I will write more about what I did inside this BH.

Maybe add with more pictures.

What Can Be The Problem With This BH ???

Have you experience the same kind of happening during your starting days?

Well let me relate to you on this BH that seems to have a lot of birds entering in the evening however something weird causes the owner to be very concerned.

The BH is somewhere on Langkawi Island and the owner seems to conduct a very closed observation on how many birds that entered every evening. His biggest concern was the shit on the floor.

When he inspected inside the number of bird shit markings was too little so much so that those birds are not doing their shitting in the house.

What can be the possible reasons?

My explanations to him goes something like this: Every night those swiftlet that stays will shit at least two times.

They usually will shit inside the BH and not anywhere else.

If you have say 100 birds entered your BH you will usually gain about 200 bird shits.

If you said that there was very little shits and does not correspond to the number of birds that entered every evening they must be a proper explanation why.

I believed his BH external sound is a good sound.

However his internal sound sucks. Those birds entered plentiful when they pass his BH however what happened once the external sound is switched off might be the answer.

I believed once the external sound is switched off most of his birds flew away and moved into their old house.

This why you must fully understand the importance of internal and external sounds.

It served you well if you know them well but is will be a disaster if you blindly used the wrong sounds.

My recommendation to him was to change the internal sound.

My "SuperBabyKing might be the answer to his problem. Let see what he will do next.
