Tumpat 3rd BH: Another BH Owned By the Same No 1 And No 2 BHs !!!

While on the way to the Tumpat BH the contractor took me to another BH owned by the same guy in Tumpat.

I accepted the offer just to see what can be wrong with this BH.

The owner complained that his BH was recently burglarized and was not happy with the nests growth.

I entered the BH and carry out some simple inspection.

On my way out with the owner I told him that his BH experience the same problems like many other BHs.

There were a lot of things that need to be done if he wanted to quickly raise the nests numbers.

His currently caretaker have very little idea what to do.

He seems to be reaching a dead end road and simply have no idea what and how to pump the groath engine.

Firstly he have no idea what is wrong with the BH.

His knowledge is like a very simple person with no clue of what can be wrong and how to correct the BH.

A very straight forward person similar to perhaps like my Indonesian workers.

During my discussion with the owner I told him that both the two high populated BHs (300 plus and 800 plus) can be easily doubled within 6-8 months if he follow my recommendations.

The moment he heard my comment he quickly advised me that he wanted to continue to revamp the two units once I complete the current unit.

My only concern is with my other commitments.

If he can copy the method that I am doing now I think I can materialize his dream.

The only sad thing that happened now is why didn't he discussed with me that he owned more than one unit.

If he has I might be able to choose which one to be revamp first before the rest.

My logical explanation to him was something like this.

You have three BHs.

No 1: 800 nests

No 2: 300 nests

No 3: 60 nests.

The cost to revamp any of your BH is about RM 30,000

If you choose the No 1 BH you will realized an increment of 800 nests (100%) within 6-8 months.

If you choose the No 2 BH you will get 100% of 300 nests equals to 300 nests.

If you choose to spend the 30k at your No 3 you will also get around 100% nests improvement and that will be 60 nests.

So you should have chosen the No 1 and not the No 2 or 3.

He looked at me and told me I make a lot of sense.

So what can do now?

You cannot stop the No 3 BH revamp operation now.

This is when he told me that he is willing to do all the three.

Hmm ..... I have nothing to say but told him that its up to him.

If he has the extra money, why not?

Tumpat BH No 1: Happy With The Revamp Process So Far !!!

Went up to Tumpat for the second time after the BH revamp operation started.

I was quite happy with the progress however there were still a number of things that I thin the revamp contractor need to quickly finish.

The walls were all done up but one of the wall was wrongly erected.

I hope it will be corrected before my next trip.

I schedule to fly up one more time to activate the BH.

The following are urgently required to be corrected:

1) The hexagonal tweeter that was up on the monkey house roof was not precisely installed.  I told the owner that I want it to be relocated precisely like how I wanted it to be.

2) The external tweeters on the main LMB hole was also wrongly installed.  Those boys find an easy way out by installing the 10 pieces of tweeters direct on the wooden frame.  These tweeters now are facing straight towards the field.  I insisted that they should be taken out and tied to those steel band and when installed I prefer them to look upward towards the sky.

3) The external sound tweeters inside the nesting rooms were still not installed.  I took some time to show where I wanted them to be installed especially inside the two vip rooms.

4) One very important place where those external tweeters should be installed are on the door frames.  There were a couple of doors and I show them precisely how many tweeters should be installed on each door frame and how high they should be orientated.

5) For this BH I have decided to run at least four external sound cable from the monkey house and the nesting rooms to the data room.  One for the bazooka and power tweeters.  The second line for the hexagonal tweeter and all those tweeters inside the monkey house areas.  One for all external sound tweeters installed inside the top most floor while the fourth was for the second floor.

6) The internal sound tweeters will be with a total of 4 lines.  One for the VIP no 1, the second for the VIP no 2, the third line for the hall area and the fourth for those old tweeters at the second floor.

7) One important changes made to my proposed design was to upgrade all internal sound tweeters inside the VIP room no one with AG35 tweeters.  This high end gadget will provide a more attractive sound to secure those new couples.

8) The night when I was there I spend a lot of time to cut those styrofoam sheets into fake nests.  Managed to cut two sheet into triangular shape fake nests and two sheet for the rectangular shape.

9) Brought these fake nests in the morning and showed how to precisely install them.  Those workers have no trouble to understand and I insisted that they should get the BH ready within the next 7 days.

One all the above are done I believe this Tumpat BH will be ready to rock.

I saw the number of birds flying around the BH during the morning session and they were pretty a lot of them.

I would think that if all of these flying animal should enter this Tumpat BH will easily have 100-200 nests within 6 months.

Best of luck to the owner and I just hope he will be happy with what I have done and prescribed to him.

Lukut BH Looks Promising But Merdeka Jaya Might Be Much Much More !!!

Three weeks after finishing the revamp operation at Lukut BH I received a message from its owner.

He was very pleased with the number of new bird shit markings on the floor.

"Very promising" and according to him there were signs in one of the toilet room which was never occupied before.

The number on the top floor again was around 10-15 while the lower floor were much more.

I reminded him to give more time for those birds to start building their nests and hopefully within 3 months those markings will turned into a nest with two eggs.

What alarmed him most was the present of zero birds at noon time.

I told him not to be too worried since they will be hunting for food during that time.

What concern me most is the haze, very thick haze.

I wonder how can they search for food with so thick and poor visibility.

Pity them and I hope many of them will survive.

My next issue was his second BH.

I told him that if he said that the signs shown were promising wait until next week when you visit your second BH in Melaka.

I stressed to him that I feel that his Melaka BH will have at least 3-5 times more birds markings.

My reason being the number of birds returning home to roost flying almost above his BH,

The more there are the more chances will be them entering his BH.

I recalled the installation of a mini bazooka directing towards their flying home path.

At the same time there were 5 power tweeters installed strategically around him monkey house roof areas.

His Melaka BH was with this special VVIP room that was fitted with about 18 AG35 tweeters used as those internal sound tweeters.

Prior to handing over I observed that 50% of these 18 tweeters were with bird shit markings below them.

I am not surprised if he will locate more bird shit markings below all the 18 tweeters.

Just trust me on this matter I told him.

We shall wait until next week to see if my prediction comes true.

Merdeka Jaya BH: Tons of Rubbish Were Taken Out Of this BH !!!

I rented a sizable rubbish bin container from a contractor.

Initially it was meant for those bricks and cement plaster of a wall which I planned to take down.

After one week dumping those bricks, wood, old junks inside I saw the bin was totally filled up.

The BH owner never realized how much waste or rubbish were inside his BH.

I told him that since day one he never did anything to clear out all those rubbish.

When you keep all these rubbish inside your BH they become the breeding center for so many predators.

Most dangerous are those cockroaches, rats, ants and geckos.

One very dangerous item that you should quickly remove from your BH are those cardboard boxes and plywood.

The cardboard are favourite food of those cockroaches while plywood breed fungus.

Of you have the time survey your BH and perhaps rent a rubbish bin.

Drive around your area and see if there are any big rubbish bin made of metal.

If you found one take the phone number painted on these bin.

Call the number and ask him to sent a bin for your use.

In Melaka I rented a bin suitable for bricks for about RM 100 and he allowed me to dump in those rubbish for one week.

On the final day I called him to pick up his bin and remove the rubbish.

I was so glad that those unwanted items were removed and right now the BH are cleaner and safer from predators.

Tumpat BH: Revamp Operation is Underway !!!

After receiving my full blown visit report the owner came out with an innovative method on how to revamp his BH.

He engaged his brother in law to have his team of workers to crack on the BH.

I was online with both of them and it seems that they have covered almost seven days erecting the walls, installation of internal sound tweeters, the mist pump installation and the filter system for ground water.

Sound very promising and my next visit will be next week Tuesday 20th 2015.

The next visit will get them to clean all those nesting planks that looks very dirty and covered with fungus.

I told them to perhaps brush the nesting planks surfaces with wire brush and later wipe with wet towels.

Once dried I will arrange to apply a layer of concentrated super pheromone liquid.

A layer will help to make the planks smell well.

Beside putting a layer of this aroma I need to look into the installation of fake nests.

Each internal tweeter will be provided with two fake nests.  One the rectangular shape and the other the triangular shape.

The two will be installed to left and the right of the internal sound tweeters about 1 to 2 inches away.

The time have come to look at the installation of external sound tweeters on the monkey house rooftop and its LMB.

I would be happy if my instructions are followed exactly like what I have indicated in my visit report.

Once all these tweeters are installed and wired will test them.

The choosing of the right sound for the BH will be crucial.

I need to choose two external sounds and two internal sounds.

The owner sound very excited and I hope to bring some good results to him.

The number of nests should be doubled within the next few months.

It will be more encouraging if it surge by 3 times within a short period of 6-8 months.

There will be some interesting thing that I wish to do with this BH.

The first is to perhaps play with the idea of using 50 pieces of AG 35 tweeters as its internal sound tweeters.

The second idea is to arrange for trans-location activities.

The owner owned about three more BH and each seems to be well populated.

If he agrees with my idea I will request him to erect a room on the second floor where young birds can be transferred and released in the room.

This new idea will do a lot of help to quickly populate this sick BH.

Merdeka Jaya BH: Changed from Top Entry to Monkey House Entry Type.

One significant change that I asked the BH owner to do at Merdeka Jaya BH was to install a monkey house above his BH top entry.

He complied without any fuss.

I listed a few advantages and I think he will have a better chance to get more birds inside if he does so.

While I was finishing his first BH located at Lukut he started working on the Merdeka Jaya monkey house construction.

I sketched a picture with how many holes there should be and where they should be located.

I also told him to use those clad  zinc roof with 1.5" thick foam to keep the monkey house area cool.

He complied and immediately after doing his work he got be move my equipment and staff to Melaka.

Upon reaching the BH I took a short look at the jack roof (another name for monkey house) and told him they look good but with a few short comings.

The roof was not right since when it rain the rain water will form a kind of curtain which will block his tenants from entering.

Imagine it there is a heavy rain at 7:15 pm and those birds are rushing home to roost.

I don't think they will be able to pass the water curtains.  He will look into installing a kind of water drain around the entrance areas, he said.

The next thing that I was not happy about was the so call water pond that he put just below the monkey house area.

The pool was with about 2 inches deep of rain water and there were a lot of mosquitoes.

Could not find the drainage pipe and took half a day to dry it up an cleaned the debris found inside the pond.
(The mosquito infested pond)

Used almost a canister of insect repellent to kill all those mosquitoes.

Once cleaned and dried then I need to attend to how to get those external sound tweeters installed.

The biggest task was how to screw those tweeters onto solid steels.

The was no soft surface around the entrance areas plus its roof areas to get those tweeters up.

This was where our long time experiences came into play.

With a number of wood found around the BH we push our luck through and all those external sound tweeters into place.

The hexagonal was my main gadget to be above the main entrance door.

I have one mini bazooka just at the side facing the birds flying home path.

I also installed a number of power tweeters that are using the same line with the mini bazooka.

The two windows were installed with AG tweeters.

Perfectly executed and completed in less then a day.

After a hard day's work tested and see how those birds responded to the new entrance system.

Yes they love the new thing and every bird that passed closed to it will stop or enter the entrance hole.
