The Only BH At Rantau Eco-Park Now With A Monkey House Structure !!!

(The New Rantau House Entrance Area, The Monkey House)

The Rantau BH now is with this rectangular steel structure at its entrance area.

It used to be an open roof to allow those swiftlet to enter the BH.

Just to let you all know that this BH is one of the 27 BHs erected in a Eco-Park in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

Due to the number of BHs closed to each other I suggested to the owner to make it different from the rest.

He agreed to my suggestion and forked out about RM 4500 to modify his BH entrance.

The steel structure was ready within 3 days.

I went to have a good look at it and draw out the list of things that I need to do to ensure that those wild birds will come inside.

I also need to make sure those owls will be electrocuted if they should step onto the window frame.

The fabricator opened two windows measuring about 3'X4'.

One facing the east and the other to the north.

This will be the list of things to do next week;

1) I need to install a new hexagonal tweeter above one or the two windows.  It must be precisely above the window and about 2 feet high above the zinc roof.

2) The two windows need a kind of wooden frame.  I have identified where the wood will come from.

3) Once those wooden frames are up I need to install about 10 external sound tweeters on each window.

4) The lower part of the window frames will be lined with electrical wires (positive and negative).

5) The external sound system will allow me to play two external sounds at any one time.

6) A new inverter will be installed to convert the AC current to DC current.  The converted current shall be connected to the electrical wires on the window frames.

7) The BH amplifiers need to be upgraded and changed.  Will get at least two new units.

Have a look at the latest pictures taken while on my site visit today December 30th 2014.

Aluminum Netting At Broga BH !!!

(The wire netting used at Broga BH)

Something which I noticed while viewing this BH located at Taman Arawana, Broga.

At first I thought it was a piece of cloth but after closer observation I changed my mind.

This must be the netting that was related to me by a BH owner in Kuala Lipis, Pahang.

Yes a few months ago he called and asked my opinion about this special netting which he saw in Indonesia.

Since I was not familiar with it I did asked him to bring home some samples.

Now I found its installation at Broga BH.

Today I called the BH owner to take more pictures plus perhaps arrange to sent a few samples for me to evaluate.

If I can I would like to source the netting for my next BH revamp project.

If you look at the pictures closely you can imagine how those grating help to anchor those birds.

The Rompin BH will be a very good candidate.

The owner called me and told me to get ready to move.

His only concern is the flood.

I told him to hold on for a few more weeks.

Let the flood subside and at the same time allow the holiday mood to be over with.

This weekend is the new year (2015).

I will inform you all the effectiveness of this mat and maybe can supply some.

Call me for any order at 017 7551318.

Broga BH: The 2nd Floor Seems To Be Their Favorite !!!

(The Curvy Fake Nest)

During my visit yesterday at this revamped BH the owner claimed that the bird's favorite choice seems to be the middle floor.

Their main target was the VIP room.

It used to be the top and the lowest floor but now they move to the middle floor.

The modifications carried out in this BH must have caused the change of location.

The erection of partition to guide those birds to fly above the LAL and the positioning of external sound tweeters must have directed them to the 2nd floor.

I can see the increase of fresh bird shit spots inside the VIP room especially along the last, second last and the third rows.

This floor used to be with the least number of birds.

One very positive observation was that the number of birds playing above the main entrance hole were very encouraging.

It used to be very quite with no birds above the roof top but now it seems to be busy all the time.

Main reason being the effectiveness of those external sound tweeters.

The owner install more external sound tweeters around the main entrance hole plus the roof.

If I was not mistaken the owner installed at least one hexagonal tweeters, 4 mini bazookas, 8 power tweeters and 8 3"x 8" coiled tweeters.

Prior to this the hexagonal tweeters fell down and only 4 small tweeters around the main entrance window frame.

The owner went berserk with 5 amplifiers for external sounds alone.

He wired one dedicated to the hexagonal tweeter.

One for the bazooka and those power tweeters.

One for the external sound tweeters at the top entrance hole areas and the LAL.

One for the external sound tweeters at the main window and along the staircases.

One more for the external sound tweeters for those located inside the nesting rooms and VIP rooms.

He must have read a blog that tells him about how important external sounds are.

I am sure it came from one of my posting.

Another unusual installation inside the nesting rooms was the number of fake nests installed.

I sense that the number of fake nests installed was somewhere around 500 or perhaps more per floor.

I noticed that he put extra effort in cutting those fake nests properly curved to suit the shape of the corner covers.

If he did nothing the fake nest will break when installed.

This is more than what I expected.

Anyway I complimented his effort but told him to remove these fake nests once they were used twice by those couples.

Once the nests number touches 1000 nests please try to remove them.

These fake nests main objective is to help those young couples but once they are experience enough they don't need these fake nests anymore.

One thing for sure was the effectiveness of those VIP rooms.

Those birds, as per my description, prefer to stay deep inside the VIP rooms.

I was right and the BH owner also realized that.

I told him to continue making sure that his BH runs well and try not to disrupt the sound.

His BH needs an auto starter.  This will ensure that during thunderstorm the auto starter will reactivate the power supply if those lightning strike close to the BH.

My best recommendation is to go for Hager or ABB model.

I spend a number of hours to choose the right external sounds for the BH.

The best was SELKING and Super 208.

"Please make sure you safe these two sounds in your computer.  If you don't I guarantee you that you will regret."  I pressed on him.

I wanted him to keep these precious sounds properly.

In case of any mishaps he can quickly recopy the sound.

Good example is well your thumb drive malfunction or someone entered his BH and steel the thumb drives.

Keep them properly and make them as your sound library.

I was promised a good lunch and happy to sit down with his family.

(The number of fake nests surpassed my expectation. 500 plus plus)

Found A New Method On How To Use Black Cloth In A BH !!!

Today December 28th 2014, I was engaged with a BH owner whose RBW is at Broga.

He wanted my final inspection after carrying out all those recommendations made during my last visit.

I remember submitting to him about 22 pages of visit report and provided him all the things that will turn around his BH.

He diligently renovated the BH and today he asked me to stop by for my final blessing.

I was very pleased with what he carried out but some he overdo and was a bit too much.

A good example was the number of internal sound tweeters and fake nests.

A bit too many but it was okay.

One interesting observation which I have never done before was the use of black cloth as the partition.

I asked him to erect a number of VIP rooms and I was surprised that he did them by using black cloth.

According to him the process to erect was much faster and cheaper as compared with cement boards.

The cloth were lighter to transport and carried.

All you need is a wooden frame and a stapler.

Have a good look at these pictures.

After the inspection I tested about 12 external sounds and approved 2 of my best sounds (The Super 208 and Selangor King).

His internal sound was purchased during my last trip (The SuperBabyKing).

He studied my blog and equip his sound system with three separate set of external sound players.

A very interesting BH owner who wanted to get his BH populated as fast as he can.

Growing Own Mycorrhizal Fungi In Plastic Bags !!!

(Growing my own mycorrhizal fungi inside plastic bags)

The only way to get more is to grow on my own.

This is the case for those mycorrhizal fungi spores.

I bought a 25 kg bag and used nearly 3/4 on those fruit trees at Bujang.

In order to generate more of the fungi I started the colony on my own.

The best is to prepare a few of those blag bags and fill with soil.

Prepare the fungi spores by mixing about two scoop of the purchased soil with water.

For this particular excercie I used one of those grass tree found in the orchard.

Pluck them out clean the soil and soak their roots into the fungi water.

Once that is done I will grow them inside the prepared black bags.

Let see what happen next.

I believed once the grass is well grown I will remove the top part and deploy the soil and the roots left inside the black back.

Will continue the whole process for my next batch of mycorrhizal fungi.

Swiftlet Tend To Be Territorial !!!

(initially they will apply their saliva on the fake nest surface).

I remembered seeing an old picture of the longest nest inside a BH in Sandakan, Sabah.

One pair of bird occupied a long fake nest, about a foot long.

The fake nest was installed and sprayed with Super Pheromone aroma.

The moment this couple located the fake nest they became territorial.

What happened was that they wanted to keep the fake nest to only them self.

The two quickly erected applied their saliva and the whole one foot fake nest soon were with their saliva.

Due to that other swiftlet don't dare to come near.

After some time they occupied only one part of the long nest.

In this case at the end of it.

This proof that these birds are very territorial and don't like to share things.

Similar to human being especially those who have successful BH.

They become so greedy and refuse to share their secrets.

Enjoy these pictures and I hope you will experience the same inside your BH soon.

Remember this also proof that the Pheromone is very effective.

(After sometime they occupy only one end of the fake nest)

(Another one foot fake nest occupied only by one couple)

My BH Orchard: Application of Mycorrhizal Fungi !!!

Those fungi helping to draw more water and food for the tree

Just to let you all know that I have applied the mycorrhizal fungi to many of those fruit trees.

At the same time I started some bags growing those fungi.

The method which I applied was to get a few scoops of the fungi soil (purchased from a supplier) and mixed it with plain water.

Before applying to the tree trunk I poke some holes on the ground about 6"- 1' deep aroung those tree trunks.

Once ready I will pour the fungi solution.

Got to do this one by one.

See these pictures:

One very interesting observation was the growth of this fungi at the supporting pole base.

It showed up the next two days.

This proof that those fungi are working.

Let us hope that the fungi will make those trees grow healthier and faster.

I am very excited to see their progress every time I am back at the Bujang BH orchard.

Call me at 017 7551318 if you want to learn more about this fungi application.
