Thank You For Your Help & Support !!!

(This picture was taken in Gambang)

The new sound "Sel-King" was tested in Bintulu, Sarawak and it was marvelous.

This was a story about a husband and wife venture in swiftlet farming.

They have been into swiftlet farming for at least two and half years and doing "OK".

The number of birds staying was around 400 and the number of nests was around 150.

What he wanted was something to accelerate the nests numbers.

This was why he make his first move to contact me for some help.

He started with asking about those super pheromone and later wanted my personal advise on what else to be done.

With the very little information about his BH I recommended him to upgrade his sounds.

The best was to use the newest sound "Sel-King" for his external sound and "SuperBabyKing" as his internal sound.

He quickly took my advise and I send him the two items for trial purposes.

As at yesterday I was glad that he tested the sound and confirmed that the swiftlet specie in Bintulu seems to respond very well to the new sound.

Remember sometime the same sound that is good in Selangor might not be suitable in Sarawak and like wise the opposite is possible.

I asked : "Were the two sounds good?"

His wife answered: "VERY GOOD THANK A LOT FOR YOUR SUPPORT" and it came in bold capital letters.

When a reply comes from the wife I think it has more weight in it.

I told them to send some video clips and hope will receive some soon.

This is something that I love to do and help those who are having BHs with little movement.

Maximize The Power Of Your Hexagonal Tweeters !!!!

This article I wanted to share with you about the Power of hexagonal tweeter in a BH.

One very important part of my revamp works is the introduction of hexagonal tweeter.

Hexagonal tweeters plays a vital role to lure more birds into your BH.

You need to know how to use it by following my tips on where this special gadget should be installed.

Most people who uses the gadget have very little idea where to install it thus the effectiveness become very little to get more birds inside.

Hexagonal tweeter is a piece of equipment where you arrange a set of about 5 pieces of 2"x5" tweeters in a circular shape.

Usually it will be covered with steel plate to prevent rain water from wetting the connectors.

One more thing that it should come with is a 1 foot pole with a nut lock so that you can mount it onto a pole using a suitable TV bracket.

I will usually connect the cable this hexagonal tweeter to an amplifier playing the external sound.

You can share a set of knobs or make it on a stand alone basis.

The key point is to know where it should be located.

Most BH owners have no idea where to locate it and many failed to maximize its power.

Some will be put it on a tall pole and some will put at the back of the entrance hole and many have very little thought of where is should be precisely located.

This is where your experiences counts.

My best choice will be right above the main entrance hole.

Put it in the middle of the main entrance hole and it should not be more than 1.5 feet above the roof areas.

My reason for this has something to do with experience by observing the birds behaviors.

Usually when you play an effective sound on your hexagonal tweeter you stand a good chance to push your sound in a 360* out into the air.

Any swiftlet that pass by will be attracted to your BH.

The moment the come near they will start to react to the sound which usually with led them into your entrance hole and eventually into your nesting room.

The height above the entrance hole plus its closed proximity will help to guide your visitors right towards the entrance hole.

If your hexagonal tweeter is placed way to high or too far from your main entrance hole you will usually loose a chance to draw them inside.

Remember every visit into your BH gives you a 50:50 chance of wining them to be your permanent tenant.

Try to apply this idea and I am sure you will get the maximum benefits.

A Newly Discovered External Sound !!!

This new sound was discovered during the revamp operation of a BH located in Dengkil, Selangor.

I coined a name for is like Selangor King or short name SelKing.

The sound seems to be very effective in a few tested locations like Taiping, Bukit Selambau, Segantang Garam and Sungai Patani.

I recently asked a friend to try is out in Kuala Lipis, Pahang.  Hope to hear some feed back soon.

I am very pleased with the sound and I hope this new sound will become popular among my blog readers all over the region.

Have a look at these video clips:

and

You might want to add this to your sound library and it cost only RM350 for the first five person.

Hope this new sound will increase more nests in your BH.

Call me to order and I will arrange to advise the payment methods.

The sound can be in MP3 or WMA.

Call 017 7551318 to order.

A New Twist On Vietnam BH So Called "Infection" !!!!

It does not make sense and I am still very confuse over this event where about 4000 birds found dead in a BH located in a coastal town called Phan Rang, Vietnam.

It occurred inside a BH with 100,000 birds total population.

There were a few factors that might have contributed to this unusual phenomena.

1) The hot weather in Vietnam was the first suspect.  Temperature went up to above 40*C.  A very unusual hot summer in Vietnam.

2) The house was said to be very small and no longer able to hold the growing number.

3) The air circulation system in the BH was not proper.

4) The ownership of the BH seems to change hand and was not well look after by the new management.

5) The old owner was not happy with the transaction and he was suspected of doing something not proper.

This particular incident rocked the swiftlet nest market and every BH owner in Vietnam and Malaysia have a severe shock syndrome.

It was initially suspected due to the bird's flu but thank to the Vietnam Health Department that confirmed that it was not.

It was more towards the poor ventilation coupled with a scotching hot weather (40*C).

The BH after proper ventilation was put in placed reduces the number of dead birds from thousands to only 6-7 birds dead per day on the floor. 6-7 per day out of 100,000 birds looks okay to me.

If the death number is 1000-2000 a day might be suspicious or confirmed.

If the so called bird flu affected those birds I believed more will continue to die and soon all will be affected.

The Vietnamese authorities inspected nearly all BHs in Vietnam in one month and found that there was no similar case.

It will also affect other BHs around or closed by to it.

This did not happened and when that happened you might want to do further investigation that can be due to some sought of human intervention.

There was something fishy with the BH ownership.

The BH was said to be transferred ownership and during the said transaction someone was not happy with the transfer process.

When one party who still hold the keys to the door of the BH is not happy things might happened can be very cruel.

Not to the new owner but to the total industry.

I am trying to get more information about the SAGA and I hope it will be resolved soon.

Ninh Thuan: Many "irregular" around disclosure service Banquet
Less than one week after the announcement of Ninh Thuan province A/H5N1 flu in Thanh Binh base (line 592 of Unification, Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan province) of JSC Vietnam Nest, bird nest market in many countries have moved. Almost all transactions are stalled bird nest, the birds nest anxious, confused consumers and foreign companies are importing goods from Vietnam bird nests and wait for official information. Reporter Newspaper Journalist and Public Opinion conducted an actual investigation going on in Ninh Thuan province, found many factors "surprise" and the lack of transparency surrounding the story on bird flu.
Announcing services based on test results "obscure"???

Tracing information from international sites and data sources by a number of scientists to provide biological Vietnam, to the present time, the bird discovered in Ninh Thuan is the A/H5N1 flu virus first case in the world. This information becomes "hot sauce" because people worried and official publication services from state agencies. The problem is that when a thorough understanding of information, we found out a lot more worthy of public attention.

The test result is negative (uninfected) birds nest at the base of Thanh Binh.

First, until this moment, right now is the Yen Vietnam Joint Stock Company (managing unit basis Thanh Binh birds nest) is not in the hands of legal documents test bird flu virus A/H5N1, all infected birds nest information is information "mouth" of the authorities of Ninh Thuan province. While, according to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoa Dieu Thu, Head of the Animal Cell Technology - Institute of Tropical Biology (Institute of Science - Technology Vietnam) analysis: "The process of testing and publication services the bird must be taken very seriously and thoroughly to ensure accuracy. The test results must be signed by the issuing agency functions and competence tests, full of scientific and laboratory measures implemented. In particular, the bird samples were tested to confirm the parties sealed specimens. Can not be declared based on the lack of strict procedures, sample source is unclear. "

Replies to information related to the test results, Ms. Dang Pham Minh Loan, General Director of JSC Vietnam confirms Nest: House bird Thanh Binh is one of the major assets of the business. However, the handling of the birds will not affect the operation of our business. We are confident the authorities in Ninh Thuan province, agreed with the decision to handle the birds at the bird Thanh Binh ". However, when the PV to see the minutes of the test specimens, and test results form the text of the legal authorities, the representatives of JSC Vietnam honest Yen said: "Until now the companies only to hear the announcement of the meeting. We have absolutely no legal documents to provide to the press because the authorities are keeping ". Currently, the Corporation is known Vietnamese Yen store only answer sheet test results identify birds nest "negative" with A/H5N1 virus (uninfected - PV) from the Central Veterinary Institute Division and Animal Health Agency Zone 6.

The neighboring nest undetected infection

One point worth noting is that when PV penetration Newspaper NB & CL Emirates Road area, Long Dao ward, Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan Province to learn the birds nest nearby Thanh Binh base, the ability to get information agency: The authorities have repeatedly sampled in the other nest and test results were not detected H5N1 bird virus. According to Le Anh Tuan, a bird farms in the alley 586 Thong said: I really urgent because his impoverished throat should not dare to say. Authorities do it, then you are on your own civilians dare say. If the disease is really make this whole area neighbors have been infected because around here and lots of birds nest close together. Currently around without any dead birds, the government here is to check at several facilities and most have no dead birds.
Mr. Van Council, 590 residents living in the Emirates, TP. Phan Rang, Ninh Thuan Province
-
adjacent base Thanh Binh birds nest.

Representing families, household birds nest in the 586/2 Unified affirmed previously without notice sporadic outbreaks are also dead bird on the roof, this is perfectly normal for men hundreds of thousands of birds also have the old, the sick, the dying. Own this matter, Animal Health Agency Zone 6 households tested many birds nest nearby Thanh Binh base, but did not detect any infected birds. Tin Nghia, Nghia Owners specialized equipment bird house (number 412 Thong Nhat Dist. Phan Rang) states: In many years of working as technical consultants installation, construction of the birds nest this is the first time I heard the bird information A/H5N1 influenza virus infection, I was surprised and not convinced of this information.

In particular, he documents the Council, 87 years old, live in the home 590 Thong Nhat Thanh Binh base adjacent edge states: In all this time, he was not on the roof of the bird's nests have died. All family activities normally take place until service time listening publication. "The best offense is a lot of people to kill the bird, put in the big bag and bring destruction, that looks painful" - he shared the same sadness.

Talking to the Reporter, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of the Animal Health Region 6 said: We made a courtesy for testing samples of infected birds brought to the Animal Health Agency Zone 6. However, Mr Binh also shared practical detecting H5N1 bird virus is too new. When PV ask questions about any likely "man-made disease" for A/H5N1 virus infected bird or not, he shared Rating: On a practical level, potentially giving patients infected bird is possible. In scientific research and experimental teaching, people often create disease strains to help students who study science experiments deployment process.

Agreeing with Mr. Binh, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khoa Dieu Thu urgent: With over a decade of experience specializing in bird research, I suspect H5N1 bird virus. Suggest authorities should seriously check sampling procedures, tests, ensure the objectivity, accuracy and honesty. Each published information related to the disease should be carefully scrutinized in every way, even if the actual findings and see a few samples of dead birds infected with the A/H5N1 virus also takes time thorough research before hastily announced epidemic.

Detecting internal disputes in Vietnam Nest Corporation

During the investigation process information about events happening in the birds nest in Ninh Thuan province, we discovered "facts" surrounding the new executive management Nest Corporation Vietnam.Specifically, the company previously founded and operated by Thai Vo Lam, however, in recent years, due to poor management and a violation of the principles of finance, Mr. Lam has no power control management and operating company. Investment Representatives Vinacapital and other shareholders holding the majority shares (67%) in this business. Although still a minority stake in the company than CP Yen Vietnamese, Thai Vo Lam song to "appear" on the market as represented Salanganes'Nest Co. Thang Long (Dragonnest) - an enterprise is next direct competition with Vietnam Nest Corporation.

In addition, many other notable details such as the time of discovery of mass bird deaths at the facility as well as the time Thanh Binh Vo Lam Thai place in the area birds nest. "The Forest and the ones he helped himself to a dead bird samples tested and the test results are not paid for the company. The fact that the present time, all birds template, sample the authorities are thoroughly tested for negative results, does not detect A/H5N1 virus. Samples from birds after publication offers, after the company did not allow him into the swift nor Lam infected "- represent Vietnam Nest Corporation share.

According to Mr. Le Danh Hoang, the owner of a business specializing in birds nest in the city, said: In the case of disease, make sure the sample is infected bird droppings. If only some dead birds infected (uninfected birds), which control the disease process tests not close, people have the right to doubt the authenticity of infected birds. "Currently, there are many ways to create mass deaths of birds nest.Authorities wish to closely examine, including the police request an investigation into whether or not the ability to destroy, unfair competition with each other. This is serious because it involves both birds nest industry and mining products from nests, bird nests to ensure Vietnam brand on the world market "- Mr. Hoang analysis list.

We will continue to seek information related to this incident and provide you read in the next article.

Reach price of RM10, 000 per kilogram

By Mohd Sani Md Sabran

While taking just 10 minutes to climb the hills in Dengkil, Selangor, recently, it was enough to have body sweats writer. What least, when the sun rises over the head.

But it said the most appropriate time to 'peek' swiftlet houses in the area because it's just back to the nest in the evening, usually from 6 pm till dusk.

Travel with a photographer and scientist Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to swiftlet house is three stories were accompanied by the operators, Datuk Mustafa Abdul Rahman and bloggers, Pak Harry.speaker system modified Pak Harry installed at strategic locations in the bird house some break through the atmosphere around as if a new nest with bird back to the nest.

Twitter TOOLS installed black swiftlet draw.

Mission to the swiftlet house in order Entrepreneurship Network Development Division and the University Community Transformation Center (UCTC), UPM, monitor changes after home improvements completed two months ago.

Project supervised deputy director, Assoc Prof Dr Azhar in partnership with Sir Harry Kasim as smart partners from the private sector to rehabilitate and improve the performance of a swiftlet farm.Among UCTC activity is down and meet swiftlet farm operators who are not satisfied with the performance and production yield their bird home.

Historically, swiftlet most exotic menu of specials only for the royal family enjoyed 'emperor' in China. Results bird migration to Gresik, Indonesia in 1808 allows the 'royal menu' that extends its use in local communities.

The industry worked quietly over 200 years, and then spread to the country as a result of migration of a group of Indonesian businessmen. suitability of this country for swiftlet farming prompted the operators to use the idle buildings in Setiawan and Taiping, Perak, as host swiftlet.

Population local 'inhaling' swiftlet house construction and then take advantage of the lucrative industry operate until the total now stands at 50,000 units. Perhaps many equate swiftlet species of swiftlets that often seem perched on electric wires in many volumes.

Actually both two bird species have significant differences from each other by virtue of swiftlet dominate the health aspect. proof, saliva produced species 'aerodramus fuciphagus' is in high demand among consumers in China with the market price may be more than RM10, 000 per kilogram.

Commenting on the differences, Dr Azhar said the swallow is a seasonal species and migratory birds. said the swallows are in the country within a certain period before migrating to other countries, but some did not want to return to their country of origin.

"The black color on this bird with bird nest, but the flight is quite different way. "kite bird will flap its wings up to the chest, as well as movement in the air fluctuations. Swiftlets have action 'gliding' and flapping when flying in the air.

"Even swiftlets have short legs and relies heavily on her nails to hold on," he said. Birds nest is a very unique species as would float in the air for 12 hours . Dr. Azhar said, from the start of sunrise and sunset, the birds will nest in the air.

"This species only download two or three times to the nest to feed the children. "sharp eyesight allows the animal to catch insects at position 1,500 meters above sea level, "he said. Birds nest are found flying in the vicinity of Cameron Highlands, but the affected location was used as a nest for food and not due to the cold environment.

According to him, there are two main species of swiftlets type 'aerodramus fuciphagus' and' aerodramus maximus'. "Aerodramus fuciphagus has many sub-species, especially the differences in shape and color of a nest. This species nests are white and have a higher commercial value, as well as less hairs. "For aerodramus species maximus, darker in color because it has more wool content.

This is because it makes cave species as a host, "he said, adding that each species is believed to have different characteristics including distinctive voice. fact, he said, is not always available in swiftlet swiftlet Dengkil equal in Perlis or Kedah.

"Maybe operators new in swiftlet farming industry does not know swiftlet species bred them, but eventually they will know also, "he said. His advice to entrepreneurs that do not 'own shock' because if it happens, do not run the industry targeted goals.

"Operators need to communicate more and make friends with other players or get the services of experts, "he said. said birds nest has many benefits, especially in the medical field. "In scientific terms, the swiftlets have good skin health.

Research on birds nest too many do. In Japan, for example, studies on the content 'sialic acid in birds nest helps in brain nerve health. "Even also found a child's brain development for the better if given the material at the baby," he said.

Besides, he said, the material glucosamine found in nests is also good for joint health. "Glucosamine is a natural component of healthy joint tissue. So, it is important to senior citizens who have a problem. The study also found that birds nest into antiselesema, "he said. Meanwhile, Sir Harry said, besides humans, birds nest are applied to rearing horse racing in the Middle East.

"It used racehorse breeders in the country.
As a result, the best fed birds nest extract, found the horse speed increases, "he said.Overall birds nest proven to have health benefits such as making the skin more smooth and elastic, promote brain development, strengthens memory and connector between tissues.

 UPM help entrepreneurs:

Swiftlet nest production industry faces challenges when nearly 70 percent of the farmers cultivated less productive birds. Failure farmers understand the bird species, plus the house is not systematic management were identified as the cause of the animal did not enter the house provided.

Accordingly, the Center for Community Transformation University (UCTC), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), which was established on March 14 is ready to help solve the problems faced by those involved.
Deputy Director of Network Development and Entrepreneurship UCTC, Assoc Prof Dr Azhar Kassim said the election result UPM expertise in agro-based industries in particular nest ."We recognized the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Research Centre of Excellence as Swallow. "UPM is known as an expert in the livestock, crops and aquaculture.

Thus, the industry has identified impacts related field is swiftlet professionalism. "It is estimated that about 50,000 swiftlet farm in Malaysia's worked with many of the birds, less productive and no birds," he said. Based on the problem, the potential for income generation is still no, but it does not appear.
The university worked with some smart friends in recovery work and improve the performance of the bird house."Coupling UPM with smart partners not only to increase the confidence entrepreneurs swiftlet houses, but establishing close cooperation between operators with scientists in research.

"Some of these things work rehabilitation and improvement of swiftlet house was treated to the collection of scientific data can be simplified for the purposes of scientific research, "he said. discovery of new scientific results from this study are expected to be shared with industry partners so that the industry can be boosted to a higher level.

"Working improvement involves coupling UPM-smart friends already shown promising results can be proud of. "Which district is involved in a joint venture is Sungai Petani, Kedah; Dengkil and Hulu Langat in Selangor," he said. Dr. Azhar said, if the problem can be restored house, bird house operators the potential to earn returns.

"There are 1,001 root associated with swiftlet house with little or no productive. Among the first step in a movement practiced UCTC work with his smart, perform a thorough investigation. "root of the problem will be identified and the operators will receive a detailed report with cost estimates for rehabilitation work excuse," he said. most challenging situation in implementing recovery activities when the swiftlet house bird house built not in line with the concept of starting a nest. "For example, the home nest was built in a location that is rarely seen birds.

Process to increase the number of nests made after recovery generally takes a long time, "he said. Individuals who are interested to know more about the solution to the problem can join courses Adds Production Method Swallow Bird Nest UCTC organized to be held on 29 and 30 May.
Speakers were among smart partners and scientists UPM.

Entry fee is reasonable.

Further information can be obtained through the course by contacting the secretariat 03-89471807/1814/1816/1819.

Two Brothers Used To Be Enemies !!!

Something which swiftlet farming knowledge has improved a relationship between two siblings.

This special article is something that I wanted to share with all those who own BHs.

I was busy with some works at my house and a phone call came him from someone who have met me one time.

We met just one time about two months ago and now he wanted to see me badly.

I quickly confirmed to come over and bring the item he wanted.

"Pak Harry I need you to bring a liter of those Super Pheromone liquid before 4:00 pm. I planned to drive home to Segamat today for the election but my brother is looking forward to test the liquid pheromone."

I was happy to know that he wanted to move one step ahead after trying out the canister spray.

The moment I arrived I picked him up and we went for lunch together.

I begin to asked him what actually happened with his test using the canister spray and his current relationship with his elder brother.

"Pak Harry I have to admit that my elder brother now is nearer to me now as compared to a few months back.  He used to ignore me and my opinions about out our JV birdhouse.  He was so carried away with his so called "Consultant" and refuse to allow me to express my opinions.  My opinions actually came from your blog.  Been reading it for many months and learned so much.  Thank you Pak."  he started his story.

So what happen now.

"Well after the BH poor performance he  begin to feel that his "Consultant" was not doing the right thing.  He slowly begun to get back to me and asked for my opinions.  I reluctantly told him about a few ideas, thanks to your blog, and he followed them.  We erected a few partitions and apply your spray hormone.  Suddenly now the number of bird shit spots on the floor started to increase. He was so happy and I believed everyday now he will be watching those birds returning home and counting them."  he was smiling wide.

So now you become his new "Consultant"?

"My answer is yes.  Thanks to you. We are now back in talking terms and he look forward for my visit home with the hope that I got more new gadgets and ideas.  I am so happy that we are no longer enemies." he said.

I am very happy for you.  To know that those ideas of yours came from my blog makes me very happy.

At least my blog help to patch up a relationship between two brothers.

"My Mom is happy to see that we now are on talking terms not like before."  his final comment.

Good for you and I hope you will continue having very close relationship will all your siblings.

I left the liter of liquid and I advised him what to do.

I stressed to him that if the liquid pheromone works, he strike a "Jackpot".  Continue using it and get more birds to stay.

Let us pray that both his relationship with his elder brother continue to improve and his JV BH will be with more nests.

Best of luck to him.

Election Day Visitors !!!

This was a video clip taken on the morning of the election day,  May 5th 2013,  in Taiping, Perak.

Something unusual and never happened before.

Lots of visitors and the owner might miss to cast his vote.

From early morning the sudden surge of  visitors was something unusual.

I wished him the best and reminded him not to miss his casting of vote.

The BH was revamped by my crew about two months ago and the changes made seems to be working attracting more and more birds to visit and perhaps a few will be permanent tenants.

The owner have never seen such a big crowd of birds inside his BH and this was the first time according to him.

The external sound used was SelKing (Selangor King).

Those of you who happened to own a BH and have difficulties of drawing birds into your BH please call 017 7551318.

I am sure we can do something about it.

Please Check Those Sound Quality !!!

This article have something to do about your BH sounds.

A few weeks back I received a call from a BH owner and he told me something that I was not aware of.

He purchased a set of sounds and what he did after that was to download the two sound onto his computer.

After doing that he spend some time to listen to the MP3 sound.

What surprised him was to know that one of the sound was giving out a kind of unusual background sound once a while.

This is something that you ought to do when you purchase any new sound from anybody.

The moment this happened to need to quickly ask the source to change or perhaps do something with the poor quality sound.

From my experience any disturbances inside the sound, back ground sound, that are not supposed to be there can scare those birds.

What other thing can you do?

My advise to you is to perhaps do something yourself by removing those disturbances.

Try to download any sound edit software and once that is proper try to bring the sound file into it.

Try to enlarge the sound curves and play them.  Just listen where those disturbances are found and mark them.  Yes from what time it happened until what time line.

Once you have the list up you can actually remove or delete these spoiled time line.

Once you removed all of them, if you can, and try to save the new sound using a new name like SelkingRev1.  Put the rev1 at the back so that you know that a revision was done.

Save them in a format which your amplifier can read.  Example MP3 or WMA.

Once you are satisfied with the edited sound copy it into a blank thumb drive and test it at your BH.

Make sure your sound system will be able to read the new format and listen yourself that it give a better quality sound as compared to before.

There are many other things that you can do once you master the sound edit software and I am sure one day you know what else you can do with it.

Looking Forward For The Election !!!

Today is the election day for Malaysian.

Those who are entitled to vote please cast yours before 5:00 pm.

Those who are not try to make sure you are on the list during the next election.

All I can say is that I hope the election will be free of violent and the swiftlet industry will be more robust after the may 5th 2013.

Happy voting and choose the right party.

Make Sure Your BH Sounds Are In Good Operating Mode !!!

During the May 1st holidays ( I took three days off) I drop bye at three BHs all in the North.

I can safely said that every one of them have  peculiar problems and mind you all we related to their sound systems.

The first BH shows very little increase in the number of nests as compared to two to three months ago.

This BH was recently modified and I got everything set up as usual.

I was expecting the nests number to jump by at least 20-30 % but I only saw one new nest.

The owner wanted my sincere opinion and while trying to figure out what actually went wrong my sharp ear sense that there was something not right with the internal sound.

I stop him from talking and ask him to listen to the internal sound coming from his tweeters.

"Do you hear what I herd?" I asked him.

He was not very sure and asked me back " What do you hear Pak Harry?"

"Just listen carefully to the sound and tell me if the sound is running smoothly without any stoppages or gaps?" I forced him to.

"Yes Pak Harry the internal sound seems to be jumping.  It was on and off and on back. Yes you are right."  he replied.

That can be the possible reason why you visitors are not staying.

A good lesson from this BH is that if you enter your BH try to listen to the sound that are coming from those tweeters.  A bad or distruptive sound will scared those birds away.  No matter how good your external sound is those birds will quickly run for their life if the internal sound is bad.

The second BH faced a total sounds failure.  Both the external and internal were off due to electrical trip.

The result was a disaster.  Those old tenants came back while there was no new tenant.

You can see some new bird shit spots on the floor however once the sounds went dead those birds did not return home.

I was pretty disappointed but took it as a part and parcel of running BHs.

The key lesson here is that if you wanted your BH to be populated you cannot effort to let the sound be dead.  Dead sounds means dead BH.  Yes your BH is dead.

Dead means the nests number will stay dormant or maybe move backward.

The third BH was running with perfect sounds.

Both the internal and external were running without any distortion or interruption.

The nest number grew well and I was very happy that the number of nests increased were above my expectation.

My personal opinion is to make sure both your external and internal sound must run smoothly without any interruptions or failure.

The selection of proper amplifiers is also important.

Every time you visit your BH you must make sure they are properly running before your leave home.

Trust me I have seen so many types of problems and the sound problem I believed the most important to get those new birds in.

Make Sure To Do These Before "Forced Harvesting" ......!!!

I am still very excited over the result shown after the force harvest exercise at Bukit Selambau, Kedah.

The percentage increase was 45% after two months.

It looks very simple to those who are new but let me share with you a few important things that you need to observe.

1) Before you carry out the forced harvesting exercise try to evaluate your BH conditions.  Make sure your BH is in good health.  What I meant by good health is that there are little troubles inside.  Some good examples are:
a) your BH if free from any owl's visit
b) your BH is free from any kind of crawling predators such as cockroaches, ants, snakes and etc c) your BH internal temperature is within the recommended range (26*C-30*C).
d) your BH humidity is also within the recommended range (85%RH-95%RH).

2) If your BH needs any upgrades example increasing the number of tweeters, installation of fake nests, installation of additional nesting planks, CCTV systems installation and etc, do these thing first.

3) Get ready to a set of new sounds.  Choose the best sound in your collection with the most number of birds attracted to it.

4) Make sure all your amplifiers will not fail during the next two months.

4) Once you finish the forced harvest operation you need to shut your BH for two months (minimum).  Do not try to enter the BH during that period.  Watch your BH activities from the outside or use your CCTV to see inside. Entering your BH during this two months period might reduce your nests increase numbers.  The old tenants will come back however the new tenants will not tolerate your present inside.

I believed if you can observe these four important things you will easily see the 30-40% jump during the 3rd month.

For a new BH try not to carry out the forced harvest more than one time a year.

If your BH is very matured with more than 5000 nests inside, you might want to consider doing the forced harvest more than one time a year.

Please think carefully before carrying out this job and if I were you try to think of the most appropriate method to look after those young birds and those yet to hatch eggs.

If you do not have any method to breed those young baby birds please contact me for some help.

I am sure I can arrange to collect these babies and eggs and look after them.

Full Result After Forced Harvesting Exercise !!!

I did a rough calculation on the number of nests increased after a force harvest exercise.

You might want to recall the report I made here CLICK

During the rough calculation I mentioned that the number of nest increased observed was about 30%.

Last Monday April 30th 2013 with the help of UPM students the actual percentage was much higher.

The Professor leading the team of student to carry out this strange phenomena was delighted with the positive result.

He send his SMS message as follows:

"Amazingly 45.2% increase in nests at Bukit Selambau.  Every floor got increase.  Will get the details later."

This sudden increase in nests population after a forced harvest exercise is something that cannot be explained.

I came to know about this phenomena many years ago and it came to me by accident.

It was in a town called Ipoh, Perak.

I was resting at the lobby in a Hotel after conducting a Seminar, sitting on a chair beside one of my seminar participant.

"Pak Harry my birdhouse was burglarized a few months ago and I was very upset when all my hard work was taken away by those burglars."  he was explaining about his sad story.

I asked him:  What happened after that?

His sad looking face now turned to a smile and said:

"Well after about two months the number of nests increased by about 30-40%.  I don't really know why but it was a strange thing to happen."

That was something that I wanted to hear from a sad man.

From that day I keep thinking to myself that the force harvest technique is something that need more investigation.

What do you think really happened after a force harvest?

Where did the new tenants came from?

How come they turned up to increase the nests number drastically?

Who told them that the BH was forced harvest?

Did the affected tenant went over to invite them to come over?

If the answer is yes, did they communicate with their voice or body movements to inform the event happened?

There were so many questions but I don't really have the answers.

This strange phenomena need a proper study and I took some of my time to discuss with UPM Professor about it.

He don't actually believed in my observation in the beginning but he was willing to conduct a study to confirm my observation.

This was what happen at Bukit Selambau BH.

I hope one day we can find the exact explanations to those questions.

For now I wanted to recommend that carrying out a force harvest once a year is something that every BH owner should look at seriously.

Before you do that try to learn more what are the things you must do.

If you wish to push your total number of nest up by at least 30% try my idea.

However you need to be prepared to look into looking after those baby birds and incubate those eggs.

If by some chance you do not know how to look after the babies and hatch those eggs please let me know.

We have a team of students from UPM who are willing to help you with your force harvest and at the same time look after those babies and eggs who lost their home.
