Should You Be Overly Worried About Those Nitrite Problems !!!

(Sodium Nitrite In Powder Form)

"Pak Harry what do you think about those nitrite and what should I do to get my nests within 30 ppm?"

A very interesting question being posted to me by one of my blog reader.

Before I make any comment I asked him how old is your BH and how many nests inside it so far.

His answer:  About 8 months and 10 nests.

Hmmm...........

Do you think 10 nests will rock the swiftlet nests industry?

Well I wanted to be polite with him and told him about my frank opinion.

"Mr P based on your current situation try not to be overly worried about those Nitrite issues.  Try to focus on how to increase the number of nests inside your new BH.  You know why?  If you wanted to have a 30 ppm I think your BH will be empty forever."

"Why Pak Harry?" he asked.

"You see to get a 30 ppm nitrite level nests will required your BH to be cleaned without any bird shit or aroma or ammonia bicarbonate or wet floor or super pheromone or love potion and etc.  And you know for the fact that beside those good sounds these items are useful to populate your BH."

"Which one do you think is more important as a new BH owner?  You want to have an empty BH or a full BH with high nitrite level?"  I posted to him.

"Ya you are damn right," he replied.

"What I think your should try to focus to right now is to get those nests population up using whatever gadgets, sounds, aromas and etc and after you have about 300 nests we can than work towards those low Nitrite nests."

"So how am I going to dispose those nests?" he asked.

Hmm ..... I am sure there are processing centre that will be able to process these nests for local consumption?

I am not trying to spoil our swiftlet industry but we need to be practical.

These new BH owners are ignorance about how to populate their BHs and if those authorities or associations or consultants keep drumming the nitrite issue there will be lots of BHs with little or no nests.

Just think about a new BH that have no other smell except those cement wall smell.  You will have a very tough time to pull those birds in and to encourage them to stay.

I believed those who operate business to export raw nests direct to China should be the one to ensure that the nests entering the Chinese market comply to the set rules.

There must be a method to dissolve these nitrite before being processed.

Just imagine someone can invent a solution or a salt crystal that will neutralize the nitrite just by keeping these nests in a closed container with a few drops of the nitrite neutraliser in it. One night inside the box the next day no more nitrite?

I am sure we can get a lab to find the so call nitrite neutraliser.

Maybe this is where the Jabatan Vetrinar should put some effort to find this kind of gadget.

There is no used to continue issuing news that scared the shit out of all the swiftlet farmers and do nothing to combat the situation in a more scientific method.

Don't tell me with the current scientific knowledge we cannot neutralise these stupid nitrite?

May be this Doctor Bala ex Sirim Manager can help us in this matter.

I might want to call him and have lunch with him.

Pak Harry , after all these while ....i dun think it is the NITRITE in the nests that concerned. It is that some businessmen crooks trying 2 monopolised the trade . A big pc of cake 4 them 2 bite.Let's c, NITRITE level 4 food set by FAO n WHO = 600ppm, H K std = 150~200ppm , USFDA= 200ppm. Now , what is the fuse they r trying 2 create , allowing NITRITE 30ppm 4 bird nests ? At least say ...pro rata level 200ppm is acceptable by us ....swiftlet farmers .They r trying 2 put us in a DILEMA.

This not a problem of NITRITE in the bird nests. It is the game of greedy ,crooked businessmen with some big shot connection trying 2 hv a big bite n control 2 manipulate this industry .They hv no BH .What is the fuse abt NITRITE in the nests. Y allow only 30ppm nitrite ? Let's see. USFDA std permissible 4 edible nitrite ~200ppm , HK ~150to 200ppm, FAO n WHO ~ 600ppm .From the above , v can c that it is a double std game.

Nitrite is not the problem. The work of greedy businessmen n crooked way of earning fast bucks collaborating with officials is the main issue. Take 4 example edible food allowed 4 Nitrite level varies ....HK= 150~200ppm , USFDA=200ppm n FAO N WHO=600ppm.Now y only 30ppm allowed 4 bird nests ? Isn't that sounds funny? All this episode will only jeopardise n put the swiftlet farmers in a DILEMA.Pls b FAIR.
