Started this project where one of my blog readers have about 10 kilograms of raw bird nests with him.
His main idea is to get started the locally processed operations step by step and evaluate the quality of works he will get.
There are many issues that need to be looked at.
Most crucial are:
1) Contamination of his nests from chemicals that are used during the processing works (if any).
2) The weight loss if the raw nests are too dirty or dissolved during the processing works.
3) The water content once the nest are processed. Some buyers from China prefer the nests be about 20% wet as compared to those raw nests which are too dry.
4)The security of the raw birdnests. They are pretty expansive and if his 10 kilos consignment are lost due to burglars or robbers, there goes his RM50,000 worth of nests.
The nests will be ready within 2 weeks and I hope the end result will be a high quality goods that can be packed and export to China and the US.
Edible Birdnest farming can be considered an ideal, most exciting and a very lucrative business. This venture is suitable for those who live in parts of Cambodia, Southern Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippine and Indonesia. This blog is dedicated to my findings, crazy ideas, encounters with newbies, comments from friends, local news, pictures relevant to Birdnest plus my personal experiences and knowledge gained in swiftlet farming.
