Kodiang BH : A Bit About Where The LALs are Located,

During my recent trip to view this BH in Kodiang Kedah, I discovered something that was not normal but those birds still moved to the lowest floor.

The three stories BH now have at least 200 nests after two years in operation.

One very interesting observation was where those LALs were located.

I have this idea that LAL on the top floor should be located where 100% of all your tenants will fly in and out of your BH.

However for this Kodiang BH the LAL on the top floor was at the back of the room.

I begin to wonder why they still find the hole and fly straight to the lowers floor.

(Note: Out of 200 nests nearly 120 plus nests were on the lowest floor while less than 10 were on the middle floor and the balance on the top most floor.)

They refuse to stay on the middle floor.  Why?

The top floor configuration was too simple and the amount of light coming in from the main entrance hole was only blocked by one wall.

Once the light entered the door into the nesting room there were nothing to block those bright light.

The brightness must have forced most of these birds to find a better place to stay.

This might have led them to the LAL and start their flight towards the lower floors.

The middle floor was also plain with no partition at the back end.

The floor was not that bright but still not conducive to those birds.

The best choice was to be at the lowest floor furthest to the light source.

This might be the main reason why those birds preferred the lowest floor in this particular BH.

I did make some comment on how to encourage those birds to populate the middle and top floor but for the moment they they to get the lowest floor populated to the maximum.

Any change of floor plans might change the preferred location.

This might be more dangerous.

Remember it is not an easy task to push those birds to stay at the lowest floor.

They should make sure their BH is cool and wet.

They must install some gadget to prevent those owls from entering the BH.

At the same time they need to capture every couple that entered their BH using the NKS operation.
