Special Meeting And Results !!!

This morning meeting with those Government Department Heads went well today.

The meeting was to discuss on Housing Department Guidelines For Swiftlet Farming In Town Areas.

There were at least 30 representatives from various PBTs in Peninsular Malaysia.

Dr.R did a splendid job in ensuring that all participants agree to the fact that Swiftlet Farming is a positive Industry and being approved by the top brass.

It is a lucarative Industry plus it helps those investors to bring in hard currencies into the country.

Everybody who finished listening to his Introduction seem to behave positive and the Chairperson was very reasonable towards a win win situation between the Local Councils and farmers.

The only problems that need to be arrested shall be those noise pollution and dirty looking building structures sprowting in the town.

I have a very strong feeling that the guidelines will be favourable to all parties.

The only negative point shall be no more lisence be issued to farmers, new comers, who built their BH in town areas.

So fellows, there is hope in this business and the best is to focus in building BHs on agricultural land.

Harry,

I hope to can speak to this Sarawak Planning and Resource Management Ministry’s Deputy Permanent Secretary Datuk Len Talif Salleh. He is saying that swiftlet farming in urban areas is detrimental to health. The birds' droppings are dirty and unhygienic. They can carry the Enterovirus 71 (EV71) which can cause severe neurological damage. Can Jabatan Haiwan and Dr. Reduan highlight to him that swiftlets until now have not brought any diseases to human and swiftlets are unique in the sense they are air-borne until they reach their house.

Read this at http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/Monday/NewsBreak/20081020191924/Article/index_html and you will be very sore at the authority. Swiftlet farmers have to come out to educate the public on what swiftlet farming is all about and how much is the net worth of the industry. Kuching farmers should march to this Datuk Len's office to express dissatisfaction with his statement. We have to be abit aggressive to get our views across. I feel your will be the best spokesman being a professional engineer yourself and having being involved directly in this industry both as a farmer, a researcher and a blogger.

What do means by "The only negative point shall be no more lisence be issued to farmers, new comers, who built their BH in town areas."?
How about existing BH in town, will the owners get the license?

tirok,

I met Dr.R and he informed me that some agencies have gone over to meet the Sarawak Forestry Department.

The biggest concerned that he has is that Sarawak is not bound with any Federal guidelines due to political reasons between the state and Federal.

They operated their own laws and do not listen or take orders from Putrajaya.

Chris, yes they will no longer inssue any lisence to operators in urban areas but encourage people to move their farming to agricultural land.

It is advisable to quickly apply your lisence now.

Public misconception is that swiftlet farms or birdhouses are dirty and smelly and swiftlets droppings dirty the town. I feel this is not true. I would like to ask does anybody walking the street of Kg. Cina, in KT smell of bird guano and do they notice bird droppings on the street or on car tops despite the thousands of swiftlets flying above. Swiftlet farmers and swiftlet associations must come out to correct this misconception. Some PR work must be done by us collectively. No doubt there are a few black sheep who never keep their farms clean by not removing their guano regularly but this is not the norm. Those owners with ugly birdhouses having unplastered and unpainted walls and illegals extensions should also do something to comply or come close to comply with the buiilding bye-laws so that others will not suffer from their misdoings.

In KT there is now regulation on swiftlet farming yet. How could the farmers apply for license in the first place? Aya ya . Hopefully the Authorities can come out with an amicable solution and make this industry a proud and honourable industry, not a kacang putih industry.

I agreed with Tirok, there are a lot of PBT not aware of the guidline. How can the existing swiftlet farming apply for lisence? Worst, your blog ever reported that some farmers tried to apply lisence but end up being fined. Even if they can get the lisence, this lisence need to renew yearly. There is no grantee that they can renew their lisence again next year.

What? Harry, complain to the CM? Don't u know that he is the one behind all these? Can't u see that all the evidences pointing to him? Oh,ya,u are still not back yet.The order for the Sarawak Forestry Corp to close down all bhs in Sarawak starting from Mukah came from Sarawak State Secretary Office. The agenda behind is that the Whitehair together with his cronies are eyeing in this lucrative business and they contemplate to monopolize it by setting up numerous ECO-PARKS across whole Sarawak through the State own developement subsidiaries and then close down all the bhs.
Slightly over a year ago,a certain govt agency has conducted a survey with many local bh owners asking for their views and possibility of supporting the Govt to buy up and move the birds to the ECO-PARKS.They received negative and unfavourable responds. Thus, this is the root of the evil and malicious act in Mukah.

Mind u,the whitehair is not alone. He is being instigated and conspired by some cronies.Among these cronies, some are wolves under sheepskins from the bh associations.Be smart to identify them.

As to the visit of two so called committee from the Malaysia Birds' Nest United Merchant Association to Mukah to give 'advices' mentioned by robertling, well, better watch out. They must be John of Malaka and Lee of Kuantan. They came to Mukah acting like cats crying over the death of mouses.Pl be advised to check up their notorious reputations in West Malaysia. They are the ones who caused the disunity of the bird's nest associations for hidden agenda and also they are the culprits responsible years ago for proposing to the WILDLIFE DEPT's 'illegal exit tax'on the bird's nest exporting from West Malaysia which today has caused a sharp drop in prices.

My humble advice is,
1)Get all the Mukah farmers united and stand behind the few leaders who fought for them since day one.If u don't trust them, who else u can trust?Every Mukah farmer pool in money into a legal aid fund for the leaders to engage several legal councils to study and to defend them.Trust your local leaders.Don't be dictated by people from outside especially those have political links with the ruling parties under the disguise of associations.U know why? Bcos either their balls squeezed or will be squeezed or they are the hidden cronies.
2)Get all the bh owners in Sarawak united and joinly apply pressure to force your local Ybs especially the ruling parties to immediate do something positive for all of u.If they have balls to try and fail, encorage them to jump over to the PR.If they dare not to speak up and keep on telling u to be patient and even tell u to close down your bhs, then abandon them and swing all your support to the oppositions.

How could you close down something which is not prohibited and deemed bad practice to the society? There is no law in whole Malaysia saying it is illegal till now.It is simply that there isn't any jurisdiction vested to give any authority the power to issue license yet bcos it is too new an industry in Malaysia.Every bh is worth a few hundred thousand to over a million and this could be the whole life saving to a farmer. This could be the farmer's only lifeline for the whole family or the support for their chidren's oversea study expendicture or the farmer's only future retirement fund. How could we just give up without a fight against uninvited aggression with hidden agenda? There are robbers preparing to rob your whole life saving and u still have no balls to stand up to fight for your own cause? Its time to be united and stand up to say 'NO'to the corrupt govt.
