Hmm a very delicate question and there are many ways to look at it.
Most birds that fly above your BH areas are high up in the sky and I am sure when then come down the tallest BH will have a small advantage.
However that might not be so.
I do believed height do play a part however if your bird call sound is good it does not matter.
I was in Setiawan beside the KFC restaurant, this birdhouse is two stories and beside it was a five stories BH.
The five stories seem to be doing very well and what happened was, the owner decided not to play any bird call sound. They have in fact removed those tweeters at the entrance hole.
The two stories, owned by one of my blog reader, recently used the marvellous Black Cloud sound. The moment the sound was played you can see the stream of birds diverting their path from entering the five stories BH into the two stories.
This is something that you need to see for yourself in you are in Setiawan.
In another similar case, in Segamat Johore. There is this 20 stories building in the middle of the town with the top ten floors converted into a BH. The entrance hole was way up on the highest floor.
It seem that the unit was doing very well but to my surprise those three and two stories BHs around the building were also doing well.
So I concluded that height might not be a very strong issue however it does gives the owner a slight advantage.
Most important is the sound that you use to draw those birds from high up in the sky down to your BH.
Of course you need to ensure that your BH micro habitats are in perfect conditions.
