When you are new in this swiftlet farming business and built a huge BH on your own (DIY) you will find that after your switch the sound system no birds enter your house.
You starts to wonder what went wrong and how come they are not coming in?
You thought that by just building a BH and put it into operation mode, everything should be okay. All the birds within a few kilometers will starts queuing up to enter your new BH. Once they entered they will not leave the BH and make the nests within days.
In actual fact, this never really happened and you wonder why.
What have I done wrong?
It is because of the orientation of the entrance hole?
Maybe the cement smell is too much?
What about the sound system?
Maybe I put to much tweeters in the house?
Oh, may be the room brightness is not right?
Well I think the more you think about it the more confused you become.
My advise to you is to get someone, who have deep knowledge on swiftlet farming, for a good look. If after one month not a single bird enter your new BH, there must be something wrong some where.
You need to identify every possible reasons and try to eliminate them one by one until those birds will start entering the house.
There are a thousand reasons and it will be for your own good to get those reasons from some one who have the knowledge about the birds behaviours.
You need to remember that your main target are those young birds who have yet to built any nest.
The season must be right where there are many young birds have just left their home and flying above your new BH.
There will be some stray birds around who have just decided to find a new home in your area.
What about those birds who all this while have been building their nests in Penang and now being chased out?
Hmm... then those birds in Mukah or the whole of Sarawak where the Perhutanan have issued letters to all BH owners to tear down their BHs?
Hmm ... oh yes recently in Nilai, the local council have also issued letter to remove all BH installations.
If everything is in your favour, there will be a lot of birds in the air searching for a new home.
While you are thinking about that, you need to remember everyday there are new BHs being built in the country.
Good example my BH in SP. I used to be all alone in the two rows of abandoned shop houses. Now there are more then 9 around it.
The only way out is to be better equip as compared to your neighbours. Let them worried about your then your worrying about them.
