BirdCall Sound Classifications !!!

One of the biggest factor in determining the success or a failure of any BH is the sound system.

I observed that many failed BH have this issue of using the wrong birdcall sound or there is no sound being played in the house at all.

There are also BH owners who claimed that any sound that they used will become less effective within 6 months.

During my Pulau Kapas workshop, Pak Hen described the followings:

Major functions of bird sound in a BH are:

* To introduce that there is a new birdhouse in operation.

* To indicate where the entrance hole to the swiftlets.

* To draw the birds from the hole into the roving area and then into the nesting chambers.

* To make the birds feel that they are in a colony of birds.

* To increase the birds desire to find their mate.

* To increase the birds desire to built their nests and lay their eggs.

These birdcall sound are classified into three catagories:

1) Mating/copulation Sound

2) Baby birds sound

3) Colony sound.

Mating sound is said to be the best method to draw the birds into the house from the wild. This sound is normally played externally or located at the entrance hole.

Copulation sound is the most effective way to encourage those young birds to find their partner to start a family.

The two sound combine is recommended to be used as your external sound in your BH.

Baby birds sound can be used as external call sound but they are only effective to the older birds and not the young birds. Since you are targeting the young birds, it is not wise to use them as external sound.

In the BH, baby birds sound, are very suitable to encourage the young birds to built their nests. They also will quickly mate and lay eggs.

Colony sound have five important functions:

1) To cheat the birds and make them stay in the BH. Since your BH is new, the colony sound mimic the sound of a big colony. You make believed that your new BH have so many residents in it.

2) If you extend your birdhouse with new rooms, the colony sound can be used to draw them to these new rooms.

3) Proper colony sound is said to make the birds to stay and will not move to any new BH.

4) Use to increase the birds population

5) It is also used to deminish or overide other sounds that might make the birds not confortable to stay.

Some sound that are used as a birdcall test purposes are said to be no suitable for external or internal sound of your BH.

Good example DURESS.

If you want to use them it is advisable to edit the sound by cutting some of the sound and use to the minimum.

The best is to prepare a two minute sound layout and you mix the sound that are with all the three sound in one.

There are indication that the sound of insect flying can be a very good source of sound to lure the birds to your BH.....

I include your duress into my external call. When duress is played a lot of birds came and kept circling above my farm but do not dare to enter the farm. However after another call was played some of the birds went in. I am using thumbdrive with the MP3 player/amplifier. The beauty of using thumbdrive is that a variety of birdcalls can be stored at one time and can be changed any time we like and all the birdcalls are played according to their sequence in the thumbdrive and once finished they will loop again and again until the MP3 player/amplifier is switched off. So you can have cha cha, rap and rock and roll all in one. Ha ha.
