Edible Birdnest farming can be considered an ideal, most exciting and a very lucrative business. This venture is suitable for those who live in parts of Cambodia, Southern Thailand, Burma, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippine and Indonesia. This blog is dedicated to my findings, crazy ideas, encounters with newbies, comments from friends, local news, pictures relevant to Birdnest plus my personal experiences and knowledge gained in swiftlet farming.

Captured Some Video Clips At Kuantan Revamped BH (heavy activities) !!!
These clips were captured using my iPhone 4 during a trial run of the newly revamped BH in Kuantan, Pahang. Please be advised that the external sound used was "Marvelous Cloud" and the internal was "SuperBabyKing".
I have been traveling up and down from Kuala Lumpur to provide the right instructions to my workers so that the final result will be above the owner's expectation.
Some of the additional futures added to this latest BH being revamped were the followings:
1) Wall treatment.
The walls were sprayed with a newly discovered lotion formula. This formula was given by a good friend from Penang. So from now I called it as "LimGuanEngViagra".
I prepared the concoction a few days back using materials that are easily available in any supermarket. Soak them in plain water and add with fermented bird nest water.
I top up into a 16 liters spray can and apply to all the wall surface, about 1 feet below the nesting planks. Just on the walls since half of the aroma is made of bird shit water.
If I can I would like to apply this concoction once a day for at least one to two weeks. The smell generated was outstanding for those wild birds however the tenant (a lady Tailor) on the lower floor seem to hate it.
"Ah ya, what horrible smell were you all using. Bay tahan lah. Please shut the door."
I am very sorry to her.
2) Harry Devil's Monkey House:
This revamped BH was the first BH which have four entrance holes on the four walls of its monkey house.
From the CCTV captured video clips taken, the seem to enter from two of the holes and have a preference gateway during their exit route.
3) Two Hexagonal tweeters Types:
For the first time in the history of swiftlet farming experiences, I installed two types of hexagonal tweeters on the monkey house.
The first is the standard six 2'X5" tweeters arrange in a sleeping position while the second was with six suare tweeters 3"X3" facing the sky.
The one facing the sky was slightly higher then the other. Main purpose is to pull those birds to the BH from both side word and up above the BH.
4) Blue Colored Bulb:
I installed a blue colored bulb at the main entrance hole of the house. The birds seems to be no not bothered with the light but it from the way they reacted they seem to be liking it.
5) Auto Sound Changer:
I installed a sound auto changer with 6 different sounds. My plan was to change the sound every two days. This applies only to the effective sound slots. Most important is the evening from 6:30 pm till 8:00 pm and in at 7:00 am till 9:00 am.
6) Duck Egg White:
I have the opportunity to apply about 12 units of duck eggs (white only). They were applied on the cement wall just below the nesting plank wood.
I am of the opinion the smell will be attractive to those birds beside the special concoction applied on the walls.
7) Testing of the Effectiveness of Turtle Eggs:
While walking along those rows of shops selling packed food I saw this pack of turtle eggs placed in a plastic bag.
I was very sure they are not allowed to be sold openly.
I wanted to try and see if the smell will be as attractive as those duck egg. So I bought a pack of 6 and let my worker do the rest. A specific room was targeted so the sake of analyzing their attractiveness.
8)CCTV With Broadband:
I have installed this CCTV system with broadband router. The four camera system will be something that will help in the monitoring of the BH plus monthly audit on the bird count. There is a slight glitch with the broadband installation. Once resolve it will be available for those who wanted to view the pictures just for evaluation.
7) Cockroach and Termites Traps:
I managed to prepare about five cockroaches and termites traps. The easiest method was to use those paper trays that are normally used to transport chicken eggs. Squeeze some newspapers in between two trays and pour on the trays the Fendona insecticide mixed with water.
Let the fendona solution soak the paper layers and after about 20 minutes turn to the other side so that you can apply the fendona again.
Place these trap at the various corners of your BH. The cockroaches and termite will love to eat them but they will soon die after digesting the paper.
I hope this BH will do well and from the number of birds entering every evening I am very confident that it will have more than 1000 nests within the next 12 months.
