Just arrived last night from Pontianak, Indonesia.
A long journey and waited at the airport for almost 1/2 a day.
When reached home tried to catch up with the local news.
Among all I need to record this in my blog.
An invention that might be suitable for your BH especially with lots of rats around the house.
A gadget to kill rats
By JADE CHAN
ECORATS is a safe and effective gadget which can eliminate the rat population in an area within a month, declared its inventor and Ecorats Enterprise director Ramli Othman.
Ecorats, an abbreviation for “Efficient Control of Rats”, is a product with a gravity feed tube design that dispenses rat bait and can be easily installed at home, factories, towns, padi fields, warehouses and places where rats need to be controlled.
Ramli explained that his business focused on rodents because these creatures caused a lot of damage worldwide by destroying crops and food supplies, as well as spread diseases.
“I was in the oil palm business for 25 years and rats was one of the problems we had to deal with. It was part of the plantation’s policy to do the baiting process every six months.
Rat buster: Ramli demonstrating how Ecorats attached to its safety cage, dispenses bait that attracts and kills rats.
“There were already various baits available in the market, but due to the labour shortage then, it wasn’t feasible to keep placing and replenishing baits in the plantations.
“I got the idea from the ATM machine to create a gadget that would dispense the bait. It took me a year or two to design something that prevented the bait from being destroyed by the weather or from being eaten by household animals.”
Ramli’s original design was a solid coloured tube made from PVC that could last 10 years. His modified this to a second-generation design made from a translucent plastic that could last two years.
“Having a translucent design made it easier to check if one needed to replenish the bait. To do that, simply tilt the tube 180ยบ and refill.
“Ecorats can be used with conventional rat baits manufactured by various companies.”
Ramli patented his invention with Sirim after perfecting its second-generation design, and resigned from his post as manager of an oil palm estate in Jerantut, Pahang, to concentrate fully on his business.
He claimed that Ecorats had been tested, used and its effectiveness confirmed by the relevant authorities in Malaysia, like the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, Muda Agricultural Development Authority and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
According to Ramli, the benefits of using Ecorats are that it kills continuously as long as the bait is replenished, gets rid of first-, second- and third-generation rats as well as “immigrant rats”, keeps cost low as it does not require much labour and materials, and can be locked to prevent theft.
Ecorats can be sold as a single tube or with a safety cage.
Ramli is targeting Ecorats for commercial use, for example within a commercial centre, municipality, padi fields or plantations, as it is more effective if used within a community.
“It doesn’t work so well if it’s just one shop or farm using Ecorats, because that one owner will be bearing all the purchasing and maintenance cost.
“It’s a sustainable gadget because the plantations and padi fields that started using Ecorats 10 years ago have been using them ever since.”
Ecorats Enterprise’s services include supplying equipment and baits, installation and demonstrations on how to use Ecorats.
