You Should At Least Know A Bit More About The Use Of Hygrostat !!!

The first 3 to 5 years of your newly launched birdhouse can be considered the most challenging and heart throbbing.

You have invested a sizable amount of money into the project and your hopes are as high as the Everest Mountains. You believed you have made the right incestments and the house will be fully occupied by such and such a time.

Your mind tends to think about all the positive things and nothing will hold you back from making the house successful.

You have ensure that the house is well designed, well furnished with all the needful, the Aroma are fined, the temperature is within range and the humidity is also as per recommended specifications.

All in all you believed that your BH is the best as compared to those around you.

Now let me say a few words on the humidity and how to keep them within the required range using HYGROSTAT....

In my previous article, http://swiftletfarming.blogspot.com/2008/01/temperature-and-humidity-technically.html , I touch on the subject of how to use specialized software to simulate the BH air flow.

For this article, let me tell you a bit about how to use Hygrostat so that your BH's humidity are also within the rewuired range (80% -95%).

Hygrostat is a device used for regulating the relative humidity of an enclosed space. A hygrostat contains a sensor that detects a preset level of humidity and is connected to a humidifier that is turned off and on as needed in order to keep the humidity at the preset level. Hygrostats are used in humidifiers and dehumidifiers, and are placed in your BH where climate control is necessary. It is also called the humidistat.

It actually activate the flow of current to operate your birdhouse humidifiers and once the humidity of the room reaches the maximum humidity range you selected, it will triggered the humidifiers to an off position.

Using proper hygrostat is said to be better as compared to timers since timers are preset to run a specific time of the day (Analog Timers). Running at a preset time of the day will not necessarily helps in controlling the humidity, but it might blow too much water vapor in the house and you know once the vapor is too high, they might condense on your nesting woods. If this continues, the wood will breed mold thus will give a negative impact to your swiftlets population.

Using Digital Timers is again not the correct answers to your humidity problem. Most Digital Timers bought at those Supermarkets, gives you only eight preset timings. If you set it, let say 20 minutes every hour, you have only eight hours with the timer. What happen if the room humidity is not right at other hours?

The best option that you should consider is using HYGROSTAT.

Hygrostat is an electronic gadget that you can easily purchased from your friendly swiftlet equipment suppliers or electronic shops or on line...

Basically the gadget, once connected to your house power supply, will monitor the room humidity every few minutes and once the humidity drops below the set minimum, it will immediately trigger those electrical supplies that will activate your humidifiers.

Your humidifiers will spill those cool mists vapor into the nesting rooms and thus increases the humidity to the preset level. Once your hygrostat detect that the room humidity have reached the set maximum, it will automatically shut them off.

Using this simple gadget will be an almost sure thing in getting the required humidity range preferred by those wild birds on a 24 hours basis, 7 days a week and 52 weeks a year. Unless of course, if your bird house have no electricity.

The good thing is that it can be run on a 24 hours for the 365 days/year. This is a better choice then to use those timers (Analog or Digital).

If your birdhouse is made up of more floors, get one for each floor. One hygrostat can activate more then one humidifiers. They should be placed on the floor where you select to be the base humidity checkpoint usually close to those nesting planks. Make sure that there is an electrical point to mount the unit.

You should also cover the unit with a protective cover (plastic bag is good enought) to avoid those bird droppings accumulating on the box. If you do that, you must remember to ensure that the humidity sensor probe on the box are well exposed to the room air.

There are a few types of hygrostat available and it is up to you to choose the one that suit your house.

Price range should be below RM 1,000.
